We were initially planning to visit Forge Bakehouse after some great reviews, but the look of this place from the outside was enough to get us intrigued. Gorgeous tearoom in the antique quarter. The service is great, the food delicious(wish I’d taken a photo of the army of cakes they had on offer!!!) and all of the pretty crockery is just beyond adorable. We even had someone playing piano live in the front room! Would highly recommend to anyone in the area! We split one traditional afternoon tea and one sandwich between two, which meant that we could try the cakes but without having too much of a sugar rush. Would recommend that unless you’re super super hungry!

Having only opened 5 weeks ago, Jameson’s Tea Room was the perfect venue for my brother’s wedding reception. A group of 38 of us headed to the quaint, vintage style tea rooms for a small gathering and were welcomed with friendly smiles from the lovely staff. Sarah, the owner of the tea rooms, was on the ball as we arrived in a fairly disorganised fashion. They took charge bringing out pots of tea and making sure everyone had enough cakes and sandwiches to eat. The food. Oh the food. Delicately placed on tiered cake stands were small sandwiches and scones that we helped ourselves to. The sandwiches could do with some better bread, but the scones were some of the best I have had in England. Jam and cream were served in tea cups(my cousin ate the cream straight from the cup with a tea spoon) and there was plenty to go around. The tea pots were regularly replenished and guests with gluten/dairy intolerances were catered for. We were then able to choose from a range of 8 or so large cakes, beautifully displayed on a table at the front. It was hard to choose but I went for the carrot cake and received a healthy slab that was moist, flavoursome and not too sweet. Many tea shops go overboard on the cream frosting but the balance was perfect on this beast of a cake. Really, really good.
