A guy who looked as unlike a Betty as it is possible to be served me some delicious proper chips. Like the ones I grew up on(after underage drunking).

I have walked passed here quite a few times and thought I wouldn’t mind trying some of their fish and chips, surely they have to be better than Devonshire chippy fish and chips ? The chippy is located in the centre of Sheffield’s night life, there are quite a few pubs and clubs surrounding ‘Betty’s traditional fish and chips’ I always wondered though how come it’s always empty or just 1 person in. Now I know why. The cod and chips cost £4.95(average price) the cod was the flattest fish I have ever had, and the chips? all cut in different sizes as you can tell with the photo. There were quite a few bad chips and just didn’t look appetizing at all but actually tasted better than what they looked, but still naff. The fish had a strange taste to it I think it was the batter but the cod didn’t look pure white it was a dull white. I only could eat half of the fish and chips the rest went into the bin ! Still hungry after. Seriously avoid this place, I certainly will and will never go back unless it has a new ownership with a 5 star review from a newspaper. The arabic looking fryer and till guy was friendly though. But the fish and chips were appalling. £4.95 was very expensive for rubbish fish and chip(oh I also had a few scraps on).

My wife and I went to 23 for dinner on a date night recently. Upon arriving at the bar, we had a little difficulty finding the restaurant portion. We asked a staff member, who very kindly showed us the way up, and got a member of the wait staff to see that we were taken care of. I went with a pint and the roast pork belly, while Rachel had IIRC sea bass. We had the fish cake as a starter. The starter was outstanding and unlike normal for us we took our time eating, savouring each bite of the fish cake. Our meals were likewise beautiful: the pork belly was cooked expertly and had a variety of textures; crispy where it had closest to the roaster, and melting in your mouth below that. It was presented nicely on a bed of roasted black pudding and a sort of apple coleslaw IIRC. It seemed weird on the menu, but I was sold at the first bite. I only tried a little bit of Rachel’s dish, as mine was clearly superior; both she and I agreed. It was extremely tasty, but even the best fish dish in the world would be hard pressed to compete with that roasted pork belly IMO. We also went for dessert: the brownie, based on our waitress’s recommendation. It was heaven. Chocolately, gooey goodness, heated on a piece of slate with ice cream… my mouth is watering as I type this. I plan to make a trip back to 23 just for dessert some time in the near future. :) As for service, we went on a night when there weren’t a ton of people out, which might have accounted for our service experience being a little better than others’. We didn’t have any unreasonable delays for anything; our drinks came out quickly, the food was speedy and came out straight from the kitchen. I liked this place enough that I’ve decided to try taking one of my French friends here for dinner. When I’m willing to risk my reputation with a guy from Bordeaux on a restaurant, you know it’s good! ;)

Restaurant 23 is probably the best food ive ever eaten. such a nice restaurant! and the chef was even kind enough to give me the recipe for one of their dishes. its fairly expensive on a weekend, but mon-thursday evenings are very reasonable for the standard of food. the atmospher and décor in there is also very nice. if your looking for somewhere to eat out, this is the place!

This is a very nice bar and restaurant in the West One development of the city at the top of West Street/Division Street. The food here is very good, though can be a bit pricey as if i remember correctly you have to order vegetables as a side dish to go with your main meal. We have been here during the day for lunch and they had a lunchtime deal on which was very good value so look out for that if your going. The décor is lovely and it has a really relaxed atmosphere. The staff are friendly and i’ve always had great service from them.
