This is one of my favourite cafes in the Selkirk area. Standing alone a little way out the town in a Swiss chalet style wooden building, it serves up hearty sandwiches, baked potatoes and specials daily and always has a fantastic selection of home bakes to tempt even the most virtuous of customer. Every time I come here, I usually end up resisting the awesome looking Mac & cheese and instead opt for the coronation chicken baked potato. The potatoes are reliably fluffy and the cc filling very tasty, yet not overly rich in taste. This always comes with a generous crunchy side salad with honey mustard dressing on the side. Last time I was here I also shared a slice of «lemon fudge» with my husband. This was a delicious coconutty traybake with a tangy lemon icing. Top notch when washed down with a cuppie tea! Orders are placed and paid for at the till and service is always friendly and efficient(although can be little slower when very busy). There are local handcrafts and art for sale adorning the walls, which adds to the charm of the place. The café is accessible for those with wheels and there are good disabled/baby change facilities. Always a pleasant lunch out, in my experience.

My partner and I had lunch here recently and it would definitely be filed in my Style over Substance list. The café was heaving — which we took as a good sign. He had the macaroni and cheese — a microwaved overcooked portion of limp pasta with some cheese on top — ok if you are paying 99p for a horrible ready meal, but this was 6 quid. I had the seafood platter, from which I extracted a few human hairs. When we complained, we were treated to a shrug, and a full bill. Overpriced, you would only go there for the location.
