The Punchbowl is a decent pub/gastropub set in the middle of nowhere but in a peaceful and what appears to be a lonely place in Sefton — nearby a graveyard which has a haunted past! You aren’t alone after all! The pub itself is shrouded with ghoulish tales, which is one of the reasons I admire the place; I always love to hear stories of the paranormal! Inside the pub has quite an eerie atmoshpere which certainly sent shivers down my spine when I was younger. I simply cannot believe that the last time I visited here was about 14 years ago as far as my memory serves me. However, do not take that as a negative because I just live too far away to be making frequent visits. Plus, without my own transport or an affordable method of public transport that runs frequently to the area, it isn’t convenient. Anyhow, the last time I was at this pub as a child, I visited with my family on an evening meal out. I remembered that I had the most gorgeous of steaks, complimented with a generous serving of vegetables — more than enough to fill a small belly of mine at the time. By now, I hope they have continued their success and on evidence from the previous review, The Punchbowl still stands strong after so many years in the business. Full credit to them. I would definitely recommend a visit if you are not based far.

Despite being almost in the middle of nowhere in sleepy Lunt, The Punchbowl is easily one of my family’s favourite places to go for a meal or to celebrate a special occasion. Although it is quite a drive from where we live, it is definitely worth the journey as it offers great food that is well worth the price. The pub itself is beautifully decorated, with some contemporary parts mixed in with the more traditional sections that have been left unchanged. Now onto the important part — the food. As I said, we have been here on several occasions and so I have sampled plenty of the menu but most recently I ordered the black pudding, bacon and mushroom salad(minus the mushrooms though, they knock me sick) and although I’m normally not much of a salad man, this was deliciously fresh as the salad and black pudding offered an interesting contrast to the palate. They also offer a range of grills and pub classics as you’d expect as well as a lunch menu and whilst the menus are not massive or extensive, they do manage to offer a little something for everyone. This, combined with the friendly staff and cosy nature of the pub, means I would definitely recommend The Punchbowl as a place to have a pub meal if you are in the area.
