Preston Brook Brewers Fayre & Travel Inn

No problem with the staff, who seated us very quickly. First impression was it was very dark inside. I really struggled to read the menu and had to keep moving about to find some light. Whilst doing so, another customer asked to be re-​seated as it was too dark.
Starters were excellent, nice and hot and served quickly. The main course for me, what a let down! Steak and Kidney pie with Mash and peas. The meal could have been served with some gravy for the mash. However, not a major issue but it left the mash a little on the dry side.
The pie looked nice, until you tried to cut into it. The pastry was well overcooked, so just crumbled into bits, but looking inside the pie. someone must have nicked the meat! I have never see a pie with so much gravy inside, hardly any steak or kidney, but loads of carrots!!!
The pie must have been warmed up by British Nuclear Fuels, far too hot, but when it cooled down. the flavor must have been boiled out of it!
A shame really, the starters were lovely.

food was nice but waited 10 minutes to get served a soft drink at the bar at 2pm in the afternoon and then a further 35 minutes wait for fish and chips to arrive at our table. My friends lunch break was all but over and had 5 minutes to eat before leaving!
The make over is nice… though I did like it before as well to be honest. not sure why it needed re doing.
Waitress didn’t ask if we needed sauces or anything, and never smiled once even though we where friendly and polite.
Barman looked fed up and tired.
We went here to save time going to anywhere further out, but in reality we could have in the time it took to get food.
When we DID get food it was nice. fish tasted fresh and light batter. vinegar tasted watered down as in most pubs these days. But all in all enjoyed the food aside from the indigestion from eating it so fast through lack of time.
With faster service it would have got ⁴⁄₅

Would not recommend. Overpriced, typically «plastic chain pub» No individuality, barstaff were good once they stopped chatting with each other and acknowledged they had customers waiting, waiting on staff pleasant at first until meal was over and they got your money then their attitude changed and it felt like they couldn’t wait to get rid of us. Won’t be going back.

meals not too bad but seem to vary from time to time sometimes being better than others, maybe a little overpriced for the portion you sometimes get however the staff seem hardworking and very friendly worth a visit

Staff lovely but meals leave a lot to be desired. They are only small and came lukewarm, they were tasty but measly in size. Given the prices, I’d expect a bit more I had to go home and make something else for us.
