Maguire’s Fish & Chip Shop

My daughter has just been in and getting chips when she brought the back to the caravan which is a 2 minute walk they were stone cold, black and nearly all tiny little bits i wanted to take them back but she wouldnt let me wouldnt go again and wouldnt reccomend it horrible is all i can say.

I’ve eaten from good and bad fish and chip shops all over the place and honestly think there are only a few which sell really great fish and chips. Maguires in Rowlands Gill used to be in my top two in Tyne in the North east. Sadly that’s not true anymore. The food still tastes nice, be it the chips, fish or my past favourite the southern fired chicken but the portions are some of the very smallest I’ve seen in any fish and chip shop. The fish is tiny and doesn’t fill you at all, but the amount of chips you get nowadays makes you wonder if you’ve asked for a childs portion instead. Sadly Maguires is no longer about serving customers with a great meal but more about making big profits. such a shame.

This is a nice place to grab fish and chips to go or to eat on the grassy area just across the road from the shop. Second are decently sized and the chips have always been hit and tasty when I have tried them. The fish can sometimes be a little greasy by they are usually light, fluffy, and better than other local alternatives. Prices are reasonable too.

This is a popular take-​away and in the summer queues can be quite long, but the service is good and friendly. The usual products from a fish and chip shop — can recommend the fish with crunchy batter and delicious chips, not soggy. If you drive down the hill you can park in the car park beside the caravan site and either sit in the car and eat (if cold) or at one of the benches nearby. The river is very close so nice to go for a short stroll and work off the delicious food! Also a children’s play area.
