Wetlands Animal Centre is well worth visiting. Inexpensive and it has lots of animals which can(and will demand to) be fed. Also has a small play and picnic area and a little café with decking next to the lake. Favourite creatures — wallabies and(of course) owls.

This nature reserve has been through some bad times recently, but always seems to somehow survive. Two large lakes are home to a vast array of bird life and other animals. Great for kids, and bird food is available for a small charge. The walk round the lakes is very nice in the summer, and the additional(caged) birds are worth seeing as well. Altogether a cheap and quieter alternative to nearby Clumber or Rufford parks, although well out of town, and quite difficult to find if you are not from the area. Would definitely recommend a visit especially with kids.
