I’ve never seen so many places offering ‘jacket potatoes’ before arriving in the UK. It’s like a stealth national dish, after fish & chips and curries. They’re seemingly everywhere, including here at Café Giardino and they are apparently one of their regular items. So, I had one. A jacket potato is simply a baked potato, split open and topped with something. Giardino has loads of things to choose from — shredded cheese, baked beans, chili, bolognese, egg, tuna or prawn mayonnaise(«egg salad», «tuna salad» or «shrimp salad» in American), tomatoes, too many to list. Mine with cheese was, surprisingly good and quite filling. It quieted the noises in my tummy for a few hours and that’s a good thing. There are also sandwiches and wraps made to order — one with mozzarella basil and avocado could well be my next choice when I return. Tip: Giardino has a membership club on the web page which offers 10% off your bill. Free.
