The food was excellent but the service was seriously lacking. We ordered olives to be eaten before our starter and they arrived with the starter. When we finished our main, we sat for 15 minutes before a waiter came. During this time the staff were chatting and laughing amongst themselves. £6 service charge was added to our bill which we asked to have removed. Very disappointing.

A dozen of us came for dinner. Wonderful meals all around. The roasted pig was fantastic. Service is a little slow — but well worth the wait. Great atmosphere! Highly recommended.

Beautiful interior and bar area. Looks like it’s great for after-​work drinks with a nice outdoor seating area. But… I hate to say this because I literally live less than 5 minutes walk away and want it to be great so badly… but the food just doesn’t cut it for the price.
I went based on a conversation with a colleague who had the duck and beef with his wife and thought they were both great. I got the lamb and my girlfriend had the devon crab linguine. Lamb had no flavor even though it had been «slow cooked 5 hours». The crab linguine tasted more like tuna noodle casserole we can make at home with no chili or garlic flavor to be found. The one positive was my starter salad of avocado, poached duck egg and serrono ham with hollandaise. Could have stopped right there and immensely enjoyed it.
Maybe it was the night or our selection, but when you pay 15 GBP+ for a main you expect a decent meal no matter what you choose.

A little off the beaten track but it’s well worth making the trip.
The converted warehouse next to the river offers a fantastic location to eat some of readings best food!
And onto the food, it is pricey but it offers fantastic value– beautifully presented interesting and delectable.
A truly unforgettable dining experience in all the right ways!

You can’t beat this place for a roast on a Sunday. The beef is tender and cooked to perfection. The Yorkshires, perfect and the vegetables cooked just right with a lovely sweetness to them.
For other meals the steaks are succulent, generous in size and really flavoursome and cooked just how I like them. My other half finds them a little rarer than he likes to so it may be worth clarifying with the waiting staff in order to ensure that yours comes out just how you want it. Great for all sorts of occasions. You can have a really decent and enjoyable meal here, and it’s worth the price tag. The atmosphere is relaxed and lacking in the unfortunate undertones of trying too hard/​style over substance that several other restaurants in this price-​band in Reading suffer from.

Very good restaurant, which is part of a small chain in Berkshire. A bit pricier than some, but good value for money.
Top tips:
— sit outside in the summer. You’d hardly know you were in Reading!
— start with the breads and roasted garlic, then go on to the fish and «jenga» chips.

I’ve been to this Bel and The Dragon (and the one in Godalming) a number of times and have always had a good time and good food. The service and general feel of the place is relaxed and friendly, the menu is largely British in theme and tends to change with the season. They usually have some seasonal game on the menu which I like, their wood pigeon has been excellent the couple of times I’ve had it.
Bel and The Dragons tend to be in interesting buildings and this one is no exception. They renovated the boat house specifically for the restaurant and it’s a great setting (albeit not quite as interesting as the Godalming one which is in an old Church).
Probably my favourite restaurant in Reading.

Very enjoyable meal, fairly pricey in that it is probably not somewhere you could go every week but it is also not too over the top that you would only go for birthdays etc. The food is at a good standard and it is worth the money you pay, good service, lovely setting. Overall it is really worth checking out

A wonderful place to sit by the river and eat great food. Lovingly decorated inside an old warehouse, with hand-​painted frames depicting humorously events of the history of Reading. Quite a bit on the pricey side, though.
