I have always gone past this restaurant and wanted to go in, and I’m so glad I finally did! The decorations inside were beautiful and it felt like you were not in potters bar high street. The staff were very accommodating and friendly, ready to take orders and they were happy to see you come in. The food was amazing! We had duck pancakes, the sharing starter, and squid for starters — all so nicely cooked. The squid was so soft and fresh, not chewy and rubbery like most places. I had chicken pad thai — ugh I could have eaten 10 of them. I thought I needed a soup on the side in case it wasn’t enough, but it definitely was. I had the creamy chicken soup, can’t remember the name but it’s the only coconut one, and it was gorgeous! Family had garlic beef, cashew chicken, and sweet and sour prawns — all very happy. I would come back every day if I wasn’t watching my waist line.

used to go to the Golden Elephant in Wheathampstead but they changed the Chef late last year and the Royal Elephant is by far the best Thai locally for me

I quite like this restaurant, we got there a few times a month. They’re fine cooking dishes that aren’t on the menu so if you’re a seasoned Thai restaurant type you can probably get what you want. It’s about the best locally and their willingness to cook anything even during the lunchtime buffet says to me they don’t just prep the lunchtime food and re-heat like some do. They’re polite and the service is pretty good but everyone seems to book for 8pm so between 6 – 8 it’s quieter. Difficult to find parking.

This is a great little place that is beautifully decorated, has a lively atmosphere and serves some of the best Thai food/cooking I have had(and due to the fact I have Thai relatives you can be assured I’ve had a lot.) Great for a meal out with friends or a romantic evening with that special someone. The above is a summary for all you lazy people who don’t want to get into to much depth. For those who like a little more meat to your reviews then read on. I went to this restaurant about 3 months ago after I was recommended it by my sister(worlds fussiest eater, the fact that she liked it made me think this place must be bloody magical!!) and so I strolled on down to it one evening with a friend of mine. Due to the fact it was a while back the names of the dishes we had escape me but rest assured they were all very well cooked. I had a crispy duck started that was to die for, it was cooked to perfection and had just the right amount of sauce on it as well as being a decent helping. My friend had a soup which he thoroughly enjoyed. My main course was a chicken and pineapple affair with house noodles filled ot the brim with vaying meat types, all well cooked and all thoroughly tasty. My companion had a fired pork plate with egg fried rice. Now I have to say, while id did enjoy my food, one taste of his made me regret picking mine. It was beyond sublime, it was like a napalm attack of flavour in my mouth and my friend quickly defended his plate before I had a chance to steal the food from it. In total the bill for a meal(Starter & Main + 1 Beer) came to £15, which I believe to be astonishing value for money. To go with our drinks we both had a bottle of tiger beer, I’m not usually a beer man so I didn’t think it was the great but it did go well with the food and the price for the bottle was better than what you’d pay in most pubs. Now that I have the food out of the way I might as well mention the actual place. It’s small but not cramped and the decoration is tasteful and for the time you spend in there you really do feel as if you could be in Thailand, amazing wood carvings adorn the wall and there are a number of tapestries that give the place a luxurious fell. The staff in attendance spoke good English, were friendly and willing to recommend dishes. The food was served quite quickly and we never felt forgotten about, which was surprising seeing as the place was fully booked up. So if you’re ever in Potters Bar and feel like a nice meal out then this is the place to go.

I was rather disappointed with my meal at this restaurant. The prices were not particularly good, which was not impressive considering the food took a while to arrive and was not especially impressive. There were not many vegetarian/vegan options(surprising compared to many thai restaurants) and they were not very good at giving details about the ingredients in their food(not helpful if you have special dietary requirements).
