I wasn’t hungry but my partner and son came in here for lunch on our trip to Portrush. Craig went for the house burger but they didn’t have it available so instead he chose the sausage supper to share with our son. The chips weren’t chippy chips at all. They were fries like you’d get from McDonald’s– surprising from a place that calls themselves ‘Mr. Chips’… they were really gross and the majority of it went into Mr Bin. Aside from this clean shop and stunning views but we won’t be back for that!

Bit of a mixed experience of Mr Chip, first up the basics. Mr Chip(very formal) is on Main Street in Portrush so is obviously very centrally located and this means that it tends to be busy. The Takeaway is small so if there is a queue you’ll more than likely have to wait outside. After a long walk on Whiterocks Beach we fancied a wee chip to share so we popped in here hoping to grab one really quickly. Unfortunately the small bag of chips that cost £2.30 and it took about 15 minutes from placing the order to receiving the chips. This is way too long in my opinion. There’s loads of choice on the menu but I dread to think how long you’d have to wait for anything more complicated. It must be said that the chips are well worth the wait, perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. They didn’t even need salt and vinegar! The taste and quality of the chips are definitely Mr Chips one saving grace!

Very slow service, definitely no smile either! I waited half an hour for some chips… way too long. Chips are thin rather than traditional chunky chippy chips but still not too bad! Not my favourite chippy ever but certainly not the worst.

When you are the one and only customer in the shop you would expect that the staff would have time to provide service and civility. But the guy in this chip shop missed is one and only opportunity to impress. He uttered not a word, just took my order and went sullenly about his business while I read all the award cerificates on the wall(who gives out these certs?). He certainly had missed out on one that being, of course, a certificate from charm school. However, to be fair, I was here to get chips not to chat! So to the chips, again a good result could be expected given that the chef was under no pressure, but, you’ve guessed it, he missed the mark again. Chips were soggy! Probably had been precooked to some degree and then just dipped in the hot oil to finish off. Sorry Mr Chips but you’ve had your chips!!!
