River Afan

A river I know well as I’ve walked beside long stretches of it many times, especially where it flows through the Afan Argoed Forest park (about halfway along its length).
It begins at the village of Cymmer and then merges with the River Pelenna at the village of Pontrhydyfen (not far from where I used to live). It flows into the sea at Port Talbot, dropping over a 12ft high weir known as Slaughterhouse Falls.
A new fish pass has recently been opened, by David Rees, Assembly Member for Aberavon, at the Green Park Weir in Port Talbot. This will make the river more accessible to spawning fish and also encourage more fishing in the area.
