The three mile trail highlights special places of interest in the life of the famous actor Richard Burton who was born locally in the village of Pontrhydyfen. It’s best to obtain a free leaflet and map from a tourist office or the Afan Argoed Forest Park Centre because, if you don’t know the way it’s easy to get lost and walk at least twice the distance! It also highlights many things to look out for including some brand new sculptures of Burton, comedian Rob Brydon and Forest Park ranger Dick Wagstaff. There’s more information on the website too. You can start in the free Rhyslyn Car Park less than a mile from the village of Pontrhydyfen or in the village itself(it’s usually easy to park near the shop). Burton was born in a terraced house on the main road down the hill(there’s a plaque on the wall inside the glass porch). When you walk across the aqueduct you can see the back of the house which has been extended in recent years. Altogether a fascinating walk we have walked along it many times, long before it was officially an historical ‘trail’! There are beautiful views along the length too and benches where you can rest and just take in the wonderful forest scenery.
