This pub is great because it attracts both students and locals. The Otley is a real ale pub and offers a fantastic range of local ciders. It has a juke box with a good 80’s /90’s indie selection, at 4 – 5 songs for a pound this is a fantastic bargain! The Otley also does lunchtime and evening meals. There are interesting vege options, not your bog-standard lasagna. It’s not brought-in stuff either, there are huge potions and proper homemade chips, Glamorgan sausages and lentil burgers. Apparently the meat dishes and pizza dishes are really nice, but I havn’t tried them. Annnnd you get a proper meal for £4 and you’re absolutely stuffed after. The lady cook is very lovely and attentive, will cater for vegans and also adapt meals if required. There is an outdoor seating area/courtyard with an old toilet with flowers growing out of it. Inside there’s a conservatory area, which is light and sets it apart from your average pub. The rest of the pub is more traditional and dark, the conservatory area is better for eating if you like to see what you’re shovelling in. The only downside of sitting here is that it can be very noisy when it rains. Be warned the toilets smell of wee. This is certainly emanating from the mens, but thankfully can’t be smelt from the eating area or the main bar. Top tip for the people watcher: There are always interesting characters at the bar and in the smoking area, very old, very odd and always willing to share their ‘diverse’ observations on the world.

Convenient for the University of Glamorgan Trefforest Campus and serves some amount of food, has a pool table and big screens for watching sport. None of these are the best reason for visiting the Otley. It’s little known secret is that it is the outlet for one of our local micro-breweries. Located across the valley in Cilfynydd(don’t bother to pronounce that after a couple of pints of their finest strong stuff) this is a gem of a beer-producing palace. Real local ale at its real local best. Cunningly named O1, O2, OBB, OG, O8 and dark O stout you can see from the names the strength of the brew. Be careful, its strong and gooood.

The Otley Arms is one of many local pubs in the area surrounding Glamorgan University. While not as busy as the Pick and Shovel, and not as chilled as Flagstones, The Otley is still a great place to enjoy a decent pint. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is always good with decent prices and a wide array of drinks available. They also offer their own brand of locally brewed beer by the Otley Brewing Company, which is a nice touch and reason enough to at least give this pub a try. Add to this a British pub food menu with very reasonable prices and you have yourself a great local pub, ideal for groups and the perfect place to catch up with mates over a pint or two.

A pub. A proper pub. A man’s pub, yes, but women who like to drink(or not) are more than welcome. I’ve been drinking in pubs for almost half my life and never has a pub been more complete and suited to me than the Otley. Good beer(particularly their own O-brand beer), good, cheap food, good mix of locals and students, never any trouble, staff excellent. I could live there, seriously. One day I’m going to have to move from Treforest. I’ll really miss the Otley.

Great little pub in Treforest located close to the University of Glamorgan campus so it often has many students in there playing pool or listening to the juke box. However there is a good balance of older ‘regulars’ meaning there really is a conversation for everyone. Well worth a visit if your in the area, especially if you like real ale!

Not a bad little pub set in Treforest Pontypridd. It has a mixed age range appeal with students and older people. Good atmosphere here would recommend it on the weekends!

The Otley arms Treforest was founded by Alf Otley, now sadly deceased It grew from a small lock-up pub ‘The commercial’ and has expanded to take in several of the adjacent cottages A great deal of the building work was carried out by Alf Otley himself’ The present landlord, Paul is Alf’s son. It is a friendly lively pub and if it is not in the ‘good beer guide then it should be. There is always a selection of guest beers some of which are very strong so leave the car at home There is a small brewery attached to the pub where they brew delicious beer for sale in the pub Otley number one which is not too strong,(but strong enough) and the high strength Otley number five(I think that’s the number) They also serve food at lunchtime and the menu looks appetising but I cannot comment as I have not sampled it . This is not the pub to visit if you are looking for ‘A quiet pint’ as it is almost always lively and full of people wanting to talk. During term time there is a always a large student body from the university of Glamorgan I guess it’s the unofficial students union bar. Unlike some other pubs I cannot remember ever having a bad pint The beer is always in perfect condition There is of course the usual collection of lagers At ice cold temperature if that is your choice The pub is soundly recommended if you are in the area. But if you are coming from Cardiff the Treforest rail station on the valleys line is practically on the Otley’s doorstep.

The Otley is located in Treforest and has a good mix in here of both older people and students who go to the local university. Drinks are reasonable here. It has a jukebox which is a firm favourite with everyone! Theres also a snooker table. Warm friendly atmosphere here, I would recommend it.

A relaxing pub with a great atmosphere. Many locals ales available including the Otley Arms’ own ale. You can even save a little of your drinks bill by wearing your Otley Badge when at the bar(badge is available free on request)
