Nice chippy years ago til new owners took over. Rude arrogant and food isnt that pleasant either, you get spoken to rudely if you have a large order and tell you that you should have ordered and that you are holding people up etc. Like i said.rude. Also had a dead fly in the chips. Spotted owner picking his nose and handling food too at which point i never went back. Also criticized for the way i asked for pickled eggs, disgusting service. Heard so many bad reports of this place and its time i gave mine. avoid at all costs, not worth even 1 star

I love Wainfelin Fish Shop and I love the fact that it’s about a 10 second walk down the road. Do you have any idea how hard it is to not want fish & chips from this place for lunch every day? Let me tell you — it’s pretty fucking difficult. Atmosphere: This fish shop is extremely tiny and takeaway only. There’s only enough standing room for a few people, much less room to eat — no tables or chairs anyway. Customer Service: The people here are absolutely lovely and a great example of a local family run independent business. They are very personable and learn the names of their regulars and what they’ve been up to. This type of shop is one of those that you really wish to succeed. Food: I normally go for the regular Fish & Chips with gravy to dip my chips in as well. The fish is battered to perfection — delightfully crisp on the inside with tender fish in the center. They don’t skimp on the portions either; the cod they use is huge and they pile on the chips for you as well. All this at reasonable prices. Even if you’re not a fish person, Wainfelin Fish Ship also has loads of other options such as steak pies or battered sausages. My boyfriend loves the battered sausage with cheese & chips. Yum! Wainfelin Fish Shop deserves all the success it gets with regulars from around Pontypool piling in constantly. Sometimes I feel guilty for getting fish & chips so regularly instead of healthy homecooking, but with the quality at this place… the guilt feels oh so good.
