Morgans Brasseries & Bar

We came here as it was recommended by the hotelier, and near where we were staying.
Unfortunately, most restaurants seems to close early on a Sunday in Plymouth, or not open at all. So to make sure we did not miss an evening meal, although we were not too hungry, as we had a late lunch, we thought a light pasta meal would do the trick, so when we were offered the Sunday Mother’s Day set menu, we declined and said we did not really want three courses, and could we have another menu. They then needed to check with the chef, but did return with just the main courses menu, and said they would make an exception for us.
After making our choice, the waiter was surprised that we wanted to go straight to the mains, even though we were offered no other choices. The service was a bit haphazard as it seems not all the waiters were aware we were not on the set menu.
I had the tiger prawn linguini with tomato, chilli, garlic, basil and rocket and my companion had the chicken and chorizo penne arrabiatta with chilli, garlic and parsley. Both dishes were adequate and nice but nothing special, I have had better Italian.
My companion then had the mini dessert and coffee, which consisted of a mini brownie or mini sticky toffee pudding, and chose the latter. They forgot the coffee and we had to remind the waitress, who was very apologetic and remedied it very quickly. The coffee came in a huge cup, which was very generous, and was very, very strong, like an expresso!
Ambiance was quiet, even though quite busy with Mother’s Day diners. Restaurant let down by cold and unclean Ladies and the Gents were located outside the restaurant through another door, and so rather cold to get to, after the warmth of the restaurant, it being a very, very chilly evening.

Popped in last week on a Tuesday evening and was quite busy. Ordered the crab Risotto which was cooked to perfection. Recommended.

Great for large groups. They are very efficient and make it run smoothly. The food is pretty good, but you can find better for the same price elsewhere in town

Decent little restaurant (Italian) a little away from the crowds and pubs in the harbour.

Three visits in the last five weeks. The chef definitely knows how to cook scallops to perfection. A small mistake in an order of five main courses yesterday was very quickly remedied with the minimum of fuss. Friendly attentitive service without being overbearing. Looking at the previous reviews I guess the staff has changed recently. My wife was pleased with the wine list, but the choice of beers is a little limited.

Pricey and indifferent. Apparently the eponymous Morgan left a while ago and now caters private contracts at the Argyle ground.

Good for a while when it first opened but has now gone off badly. Expensive and varying between precious and indifferent. May still be Ok for ladies who shop.

We found this place almost by accident whilst waiting for the British Fireworks Championship. It is now a full Italian-​inspired restaurant rather than just a brasserie. The choice and quality of food was superb and the service excellent. They also do a pre-​theatre deal menu, which looks great.
We shall definitely visit again when in Plymouth

I love eating here, it has such a welcoming atmosphere, the staff are very friendly and attentive and the food is divine. the menu has enough choice but not so much that you cant decide. there is a good wine list amongst other beverages on offer. i would def recommend this restaurant.
