A stiflingly hot room in October ruined what might otherwise have been a pretty decent stay. The aircon was feeble. Otherwise the room was OK. We were right by the lifts which might have disturbed some people, but didn’t really us. The reception was pretty hectic on arrival. Just the one lady with an awkward American guest trying to get some duct tape. I don’t think that is on the list of forgotten essentials. Luckily toothpaste was as we’d neglected to bring any! The receptionist was quite stressed finding us a room too. she kept calling upstairs and asking about the state of transition of various other rooms before finally finding us one clean and ready to go. The location is great only a couple of minutes walk from the Hoe and maybe 5 minutes(if you know the right path) from the Barbican area. The pool and gym areas were rather nice. I was a bit disgruntled at the 20 quid charge if we wanted wi-fi for our stay!

Regular holiday inn– good price, I got it at 60 pounds for a night– and the location is right by the Citadel. Beware the parking lot underneath the hotel, it is very cramped and difficult to navigate. Luckily they have additional outdoor parking across the road– but reception did not tell me about it. Also– this hotel is located on Armada way… my iPhone GPS took me to the other end of Armada way but the middle portion of Armada way is a pedestrian shopping street– and it is not obvious that the street continues on the other side. After driving around for 20 minutes we had to ask a taxi driver where the hotel was.

I recently visited this Holiday Inn for a two day conference. Even though I live in the city it made a nice change to stay in a hotel up on the Hoe. The meeting rooms up in the Penthouse of the hotel boast spectacular views from every window, it is amazing how far you can see! The hotel provide a hot buffet lunch for corporate functions which is included in the day-delegate rate for the hotel. The main meals were very nice although there was nothing really served with them. For example we were offered chilli, sausages or chicken pie with only rice or a jacket potato to go with it. The rooms are very clean and tidy and all the members of staff are very helpful and friendly.

My friend and I stayed at the Holiday Inn on a Saturday night in October this year to attend a party. We had booked over the internet and requested a twin room in a quiet area if possible. On arrival the receptionist tried to check us in early as we had arrived early but our room wasn’t ready. She gave us directions to the attached car park so we parked and went shopping. One point is the car park is very tight. We had a small hatchback and had to move slowly. How people moved the larger estate cars in and out I do not know! When we eventually did get checked in we were given a twin room right at the end of the corrider so it was quiet as requested. We were on the 5th floor overlooking the hotel and park at the front with a view of the hoe right up to the far left. We visited the penthouse bar and the service by the Polish lady at the bar was very good. My only complaint would be the treatment of the bar and wait staff by the Manager. He was downright rude to them in front of guests which in my opinion was just not on. The room was clean and tidy and had two very comfy double beds with a small table and club chairs. We had a large dressing table, mirror and multiple plug sockets. The bathroom was also clean and tidy. We used room service to order sandwiches at 2am and these arrived promptly. Check out the following morning was painless and quick. When we left we realised that the parking had actually been free which was a nice suprise. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.
