Very good service and food in a beautiful old pub. Very good steak and ale pie along with a salad request that was not on the menu. Service was sincere and the special request was not an issue at all. Made for a great visit and beautiful afternoon.

Visiting Oundle overnight we stayed at the Ship, the room needed a bit attention with the decoration, but it was comfortable for an overnight stop, the bar was quiet on the Sunday night we stopped, the staff were friendly and the bar had plenty of character, good choice of drinks, would have given the pub 5 stars but for the room also did not do a breakfast apart from Sunday, but we found a suitable café just down the road.

There are several lovely pubs to choose from in Oundle. But for a good friendly, country welcome, I think that the Ship won out. It’s a rambling building set on the High Street not so far from the war memorial. Old, with several rooms and bags of character, it’s a delight to visit. And it clearly does a roaring trade. I found the after work crowd and the locals to be warm and welcoming. I was very impressed by the beer served and best of all were the tables outside on the lane at the back of the pub which were very pleasant on a warm evening.

This pub is in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide and always has four real ales on tap, as well as a host of other drinks for those people whose tastes don’t extend to ale. In addition to that, the pub serves some of the best pub food available in and around Peterborough — Sunday lunch is very good indeed and the desserts are divine. Give it a try!
