Serpentine Green Shopping Centre

Serpentine Green — or Hampton, as I would call it — is a handy shopping centre in Peterborough. Whether you want to call in at the large Tesco or have a wander around the shops, it’s a great contained area, good for a trip out when the weather is bad.
To begin with shopping, as is the best way, there is a Next, Outfit, Mothercare, New Look, H&M, Boots and WH Smith, to name but a few. As Outfit include labels such as Miss Selfridge, Topshop and Dorothy Perkins, it helps to please everyone. The shops can get busy, especially if people decide to bring their trollies into the store (you can only get them outside, which really brings out the lazy in people) and inevitably cover up the till points.
Food options are pretty standard, with places such as Subway and the Tesco café at the far end of the centre in a food hall style set up.
The Tesco is 24 hours, and offers everything from food and salad bar to electrical and clothing and is much much larger than its Barhill cousin, which is closer to home. Check outs were busy on our visit, as they always are at Tesco, but staff were efficient enough.
The car park is large, with what seems like plenty of disabled parking, so try not to lose your car!

This is a great little shopping centre for when you dont want to be fussing around parking and then pushing your way around queensgate. Tesco’s has all you need for your weekly shops and also has shops for all ages, theres a food court, hairdressers and library all within serpentine green aswell as a doctors surgery. i find serpentine green a very useful thought out place to shop

Serpentine Green has got to be one of the worst designed places I’ve ever had the misfortune of shopping at.
Serpentine Green is dominated by Tesco and requires you to become as rude and obtrusive as possible when shopping. Unless you’re willing to barge your way through the aisles full of dithering shoppers and stock cages left by staff then you’re better off shopping online.
The Tesco store is 24 hour, but that just means that the lights are on. You’ll struggle to find more than a couple of checkouts open (even when customers are queued three or four deep), aisles are completely full of cages from the night shift restocking and most fresh meat and produce shelves are empty.
For their part, the other shops in Serpentine Green aren’t that bad and some are better than their city centre counterparts.
Unless you’re there at an odd time of day (around 10am in the week), then you’re faced with parking miles away from the doors and queueing at every opportunity. For some reason, people actually travel to visit this place when they have amenities on their own doorstep.
The car park is badly designed so that in peak times everyone funnels out onto a tiny roundabout and then proceeds to change lanes. Had they given it some thought when they parked up, they might have found it easier when leaving

This is a great little shopping centre if you don’t want to visit the nearby busy queensgate centre. I often go there if I just want to visit a few shops. There is plenty of parking right next to it., so no long walk. As well as the shops there is a café and crèche facilities.
Plenty for a nice shopping experience — also a garage nearby.

Located in the Hampton area of Peterborough, its a short drive from Queensgate. With a large Tesco’s and Outfit, its nice to be able to shop in a less stressful environment with bigger shops. No, the variety isn’t as good as Queensgate, but with bigger shops, the actual stores have more to offer.
I wouldn’t personally cope with doing my weekly shop in Tescos as it is so big, but its good to have a look at the electrical department or nip in for the odd food item.
The carpark is large, so parking is never a problem. Overall, a great place to shop!
