I arrived at 6 p.m. There was one table and 3 waiters.(Another table of 4 came 15 mins after me.) It took more than 40 minutes to get my entrée — the seared tuna Niçoise salad. The tuna was overcooked but with so much time lost, I couldn’t afford more time to send it back. They also told me the potato broccoli soup had no dairy, but it did. This place was a favorite in the past but seems to have gone downhill.

The High Table is an excellent restaurant. Part of the Mercure Eastgate Hotel, this is their restaurant, and serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. The service is fantastic, and the atmosphere is excellent. Very upscale, but comfortable and not too sterile or cold. The menu is small, but I have eaten dinner here several times and never once been disappointed(nor has anyone in my party) with any of the food. The menu changes frequently, but the mainstays(burger, steak, lamb, etc.) are great. The duck fat chips are fantastic. Definitely a place to go for a nice dinner in Oxford. It’s not the cheapest, but the quality is excellent and the service, atmosphere, and food all make it worth it.
