Adopted this as our«local» in Oxford while on a recent trip from Philly. Lawrence the bartender and crew were very professional and friendly. They showed us other pubs to go to favored by industry people once off work – HINT: go to White Rabbit for a pint when others close at 11, they are open an hour later. great bunch of characters in this place, Lance, Gary, et al were super cool. This pub is a Bath Ales establishment, so they have some different ales on cask than you find around town, and they have excellent stuff from their Beerd experimental unit – like the Cubic Ale, which was my favorite beer in Oxford. Cannot say enough about this place, great service, and nice staff who made us feel at home even though we were tourists and adopted us into their fold. This pub is actually from the Victorian era, and thus is just a bit different from all the medieval stuff in OXford. Definitely worth a trip. We did not eat, but it supposed to have very good food. I regret not sampling the fish and chips, they use the same purveyor for their seafood as the Ramsay restaurants.

The best fish and chips you can find — the tartar sauce and peas are also particularly good. The ales on tap are notable as well. Highly recommended, especially if one is looking for above average pub fare to complement a drink.

We followed the white rabbit to The Grapes Pub. Staff were very friendly, food(snacks and mains we had) were definitely fresh fare, it was clean and fun to be in, and the beer selection was great. Perfect for a local stop. Ticked all the boxes. A good stop for any day trippers! I could have had the beer bread all by myself but shared instead(sigh).

Single roomed pub selling mainly Bath Ales. Usual dark wood and leather seating. Mix of high and low seating. Beer quality ok at time of tasting and good price for Oxford. Seems popular. Only downside was a greasy food smell.

The Grapes is a cozy pub with warm feelings. They have mastered the art of onion rings, and during the holidays they have themed beverages. Fun, yummy, and comfortable.

Had to get the real deal fish and chips. This was the place! Even my family that normally doesn’t eat fish and chips loved it! Great place for ale and real pub fare.

Some Internet archaeology suggests that this pub was taken over by Bath Ales in or around March 2012, so bear that in mind when reading the older reviews. Personally I like their beers quite a bit, and for comparison they have some guests beers as well. Food was rather good as well, and more interesting that your average pub grub. My starter was a small serving of black pudding, for example. What they can improve would be the general looks of the pub; now it’s some sort of in-between an old, traditional pub, and something modern. I think they should make their minds up and then go with it. Until then, we can at least enjoy the beers and the food!

Had my first beer here whilst traveling England for my 18th birthday with a friend of mine. Keep in mind that this was March of 2012. They were friendly and helpful in suggesting a beer for both of us. I ended up with the Barnsey, a golden colored beer that tasted great!

Excellent affordable food! The food is the best pub food I have tried so far. The atmosphere could be better, but what the hell, it’s a pub.

Great traditional pub — long bar with several snugs with the walls & ceiling covered in theatre posters(theatre opposite.) Great beers & passable pub food. Worth a visit. Returned just after Christmas ’09 — no heating — it was warmer outside! Drops a star for that
