Pizza was burnt and generally uninspired. Quality really didn’t fit the price. You’re better off getting dominos or something

Pizza isn’t bad, but the price is too high. Prices eat-in are higher than take-away(fine), but on top of that they also make you pay the service! For what? The table was also dirty! And moreover the beer wasn’t very good, and do not take the dessert: horrible, and super expensive! My suggestion is: use it only for take away, never eat in.

Adore this place. Fresh made Italian food in the centre on East Oxford! Have been at least ten times and have never had a bad experience with food, waiting, staff… nothing! Prices are also very reasonable. One of my top 5 in the whole of Oxford for sure! Helps that it is 2 minutes from my house too

My sister-in-law loves this place, and after our dinner there, it was clear why. The décor is nothing fancy, but the food is solidly delicious. You pass by the pizza ovens in the front, so you can see the work going into your food. We were seated in the upstairs portion(not sure if there’s seating downstairs since now that I think about it, it was only staff heading down the stairs at the back). We’d been visiting a few pubs before our 7:30 booking, so we immediately ordered our main dishes. I got the spaghetti alla puttanesca, Jimmy got the Pizza de Mario(has to be good if it has the business name in it, right?), and Jane got the tortelloni alla calabrese. J and J also had the house wine, a montepulciano, that much improved with breathing. The food arrived fairly quickly, and all was delicious. The puttanesca, with olives, capers, and anchovies had a nice briny taste. The cream sauce on the tortelloni was divine — balanced between the cream and the tang of the tomato, very comforting. The pizza with bacon and sausage, artichokes, olives, was nicely crisp on the bottom and not too sweet on the sauce. We left all the plates clean! Prices seem quite reasonable for the quality of the food and the portion size.

Best pizza in Oxford in my opinion! Such a good selection as well, and a real authentic Italian vibe about the place.

This place has top notch, brick oven pizza. And you get the cliché Italian Ristorante experience as well! The tables are cozy and decked out with red and white checkered tablecloths, the house red is moderately priced(and quite good), and the service is spot on. The dough is simple and a perfect consistency, they’re generous with their veggies on the veg pizza, and they didn’t blink an eye when I asked for no cheese. Their house side salad is tossed in a good balance of balsamic vinegar and olive oil. As for the portions? Huge! My mates got calzones that were basically a 30 cm diameter pizza folded over on itself, my pizza was about the same size and my salad was supposed to be a «side» salad but could almost be a standalone meal. Definitely check this place out and come with an appetite!

Whenever my boyfriend and I craved quality pizza in Oxford, we made the walk down Cowley Rd to Mario’s. We never tried their other dishes, mostly because he reasoned that they must not be as good as their wood-fired pizzas. Reservations are highly recommended, especially on the weekend. We often walked in without reservations and had to settle for takeaway pizza(and promptly consumed the pies in Christ Church Meadow). Although we are definitely not vegetarians, we preferred the veg pizzas, such as the Pizza ai Funghi and Pizza Siciliana. All in all, a charming pizza place in East Oxford!

I ordered a take a way pizza and didnt have enough money to buy it– but the sweet people at Mario’s said– no worries, we will make you your pizza pie! I brought the pizza home and DAMN was it the most delicious pizza I have had outside of Italy! This place makes amazing pizza! Plus, the staff/owners are friendly, the price is right… whats not to love here? I will definately be coming back! Thanks Mario’s!

From the outside Mario’s doesn’t look massively inviting, but inside a homely Italian dining experience awaits. Real Italians cook and serve up delicious, and well-priced, dishes. You can see them making the pizza through the window, or from your table. Takeaways available too.

Mario’s is what going out for a meal should be. It’s busy, never too busy in my experience, however, not to find a table. It’s popularity can only be seen as testament to how good this place really is. You’ll also feel confident you’re getting the real Italian job, the restaurant is owned and run by Italians who know exactly what they’re doing. It’s easy to opt for their amazing pizzas but you’ll be just as impressed with their Calzone or incredible pasta dishes. Having been a fan of this place while I was a dirty student who lived on pasta it says quite a lot that I’d happily pay for more of the stuff in a restaurant. Go there tonight.

Mario’s has been a popular restaurant with my family and friends for 15 years now, but I have to say I think the quality of the experience has gone down a little in recent years. Still an excellent friendly Italian restaurant, but since Mario himself retired you don’t get the individual touches that made the place so memorable in the 1990s. No singing, no detailed history of Italian islands, and no free limoncello at the end of a meal. Nostalgia aside, this is still a good restaurant with excellent food and a casual friendly atmosphere that makes it equally suitable for quiet romantic meals, family outings, student groups or works dinners. Preferably not on the same night, as the downside of the small intimate restaurant is that you can’t avoid hearing your neighbours, or bumping elbows with them on the way to the — awkwardly-placed — loos. But the food is always worth it.

Marios is a fine and friendly establishment. Drop in for an impromptu pizza or book tables for an engagement do or hen night, you name it. They always enjoy people enjoying themselves, so the more fun you are having, the happier the Italians will be! There is a great menu, great pizzas and a range of puddings. Don’t forget the wine either! Pizzas are all made to order and service is friendly and quick. Enjoy :)

This is a little gem, out on Cowley Road. This place is run by an Italian family and the food is very authentic and really tasty. The room is fairly simple and a great place to relax — there’s no pretention about the place at all. The tables are nicely spaced apart so there’s space to talk and the service is just attentive enough — you won’t be left wanting for anything but you won’t be badgered. Although — it’s probably a good idea to avoid going on when there’s a big football match on as the TV comes out and the waiters get pretty engrossed! The food is all excellent — very reasonably priced and much better than the chain Italians. The pizza is brilliant, to eat in or take away — you can see it being made from your seat. The pasta too is lovely and full of flavour, served in very generous portions — there’s no way you’ll go away hungry. Brilliant for a takeaway too! Definitely worth the trip to Cowley Road if you live in the centre of town.
