I worked here for 3 months while I studied in Oxford back in 2005. Amazing experience, and the best burger I had in the UK. Sauce is boss, and this place completely brings it. I hope the new version that popped up in ’08 captures just even a portion of what made this place special. I’m planning to check out the new iteration for myself next year.

What a relief that this has reopened and kept its unique high standard. Wonderful burgers, superb chips and the sauces. Annoying queuing system but who cares when you can slip over the road for a pint while you’re waiting. It’s so rare for these kinds of places to keep going after a change of ownership and yet keep the best bits of the previous tenants. Peppers must be the last independent burger place left in Oxford and it is well worth a pilgrimage.

To say that Peppers Burgers is famous among those-in-the-know in Oxford is to make a huge understatement. This takeaway place is the stuff of legends. And not just of grimy, poverty-stricken student horror story legends, but of unforgettably amazing, unique, lifesaving legends. It shut down a while ago and reopened earlier this year much to the delight of locals and the whispered adulation of students. I think a lot of its old fans have moved on or are unable to believe the good news, because not many people in the area seem to have heard of it. If you’re still not convinced, the only solution is to go along and try one of their burgers. A fiver will get you a lot, and believe me, you’d happily pay twice that. Watch out for the spicy sauces — they are very hot! If you can’t resist the challenge, don’t say I didn’t warn you! The chips are reasonable, the staff are friendly, and even the Americans I know, who have pretty high burger standards, are huge fans.
