I have been a few times. Most of the acts are really funny, some are definitely not. Organisation is chaotic. Unless you have pre-ordered food you will have to fight for it. Order pitchers of beer as it’s a scrum at the bar. The quality of the compare varies A LOT and can make or break the evening. Food is burgers and fries etc, and quality is low, but then that’s not really why you are there. Great for stags and hens, but don’t expect sophistication. Dancing afterwards, but usually too pissed to remember if it’s any good. Oh, and the actual lineup can be completely different to the one advertised, and nobody seems to give a toss :-)

The Jongleur’s in Oxford seem to attract a consistently high calibre of acts. The staff are cool and the jugs of beer are pretty good value. There are usuals 3 – 4 comedians with a small interval in the middle. After the comedy finishes, they usually push back the tables and everyone has a bit of a boogie. word of advice: Don’t try and heckle the comedians. I’ve seen it attempted so many times. You will get shot down. I think the best retort i heard from a comedian was — «listen mate, i get paid to be a c*!t, you’ve got no excuse». Pure genius.
