Very decent Turkish place up in Headington. Almost four stars: The food is really rather good, simple food. Turkish. Price-wise, it’s a bit hit and miss. Everything just seems to cost a bit more than it should. Fine, I suppose — we had 8 adults and 2 children and the bill was £180 including service. But the service is just a bit spotty. Late arriving food, missed orders, the(£4!) Turkish coffees were rather inconsistent — one was half sludge, and gritty all the way through. Even though they thought we’d ordered 4(we’d ordered 5) they went ahead and made it stretch. So, OK. Fine. Decent. But there’s as good or better food to be had at as good or better prices… just with better service, and not far away. Bonus points for the fez hot-glued to the gent’s lav door.

Great selection of food. If you are looking of Tapas that is a little different then it is worth a visit. I have had many a great nights here, when I was living in Headington. Loving the Turkish Drum and Bass! Its a shame it was only for one night only.

I went to Bar Meze last year, curious about the promised mix of Turkish and European cuisine. It requires a trek out to Headington, but if that sort of food’s your thing, you won’t be disappointed. My friends assured me that it was pretty genuine, so if you’re from Turkey or Eastern Europe, this may alleviate some cravings for home food; if not, it’s worth trying it to see what it’s all about. From my experiences of Eastern Europen foods, the real thing is definitely better, but maybe this leans more towards the Turkish. Unfortunately hummus, lamb, goats chees eand seafood aren’t really my thing, so although I felt pretty healthy eating here, it wasn’t the tastiest meal of my life. The food’s good quality though, but you pay for what you get and my wallet took a bit of a bruising. Monday night is music night — probably worth checking out, although I imagine it may be another matter of taste.
