You can’t see what this pub looks like inside because of the frosted windows, but once you lift the latch(yep, there’s a latch) on the door and walk in it’s all change and back to 1975! The Royal Oak, whilst friendly and clean just has that musty smell of old furniture that comes with a pub which has long since been refurbished. It seems to be a common theme in pubs and shops around the Oldbury area — perhaps it’s a sign of a lack of investment, perhaps it’s something else, perhaps everyone’s happy with it. I was one of only three customers in the Royal Oak when I went in on a Tuesday night, but the lack of customers was balanced out by the huge amount of pictures and football memorabilia on the wall which kept me interested for a bit. The pub also does Indian food to eat in and take out and has the usual selection of lager, cider and Guinness. There were three hand-pulls but only one was on(and that has Old Rosie on it). It gets three stars not two because I could sit at the bar and read a paper that had been left there. Verdict: A drinker’s pub.
