The Broadway café bar has long been one of the trendiest hangouts in Nottingham. It attracts an eclectic crowd of students and culture lovers. Since Tynemill took over its running, it’s offered an excellent range of local real ales and good food, although the service can be sloppy. It has a great terrace for summer drinking and the mezzanine bar offers views over Broad Street. The downstairs bar has recently been refitted and redecorated in a very sharp modernist style and remains the coolest place in town for meeting friends or having a coffee(or something stronger) while reading or surfing the web.

The food is well made and tasty but the service is not impressive with the customers generally being treated like a nuisance to the staffs social lives. Mostly no courteousness is given, often not breaking their chat to take order, just plonking your drink in front of you with their hand out for money!

Although I have already waxed lyrical about the joys of the Broadway cinema itself, the bar/café is a force unto itself. While most cinema bars see the ebb and flow of the film patrons, fuelling for an hour before the film begins, this bar follows no such pattern. Due to the amazing food and great drinks(Stowford Press cider on tap!) it’s more of a general hang out than a time filler. They often have fancy dress themed nights which go down a treat with the majority of people — Indiana Jones summer barbecue was a particular highlight. They also offer a deal whereby you can get your film ticket, a decent main meal and a drink all for under £10! I dare you to challenge Odeon to match that eh!

Not too much seating and not that comfortable but the food is really good here.

I recently became a member of this Cinema. Thoroughly enjoy the vibe of the place and its a great place to see non mainstream cinema. The Paul Smith seats look the business too. There is free Wi Fi available too so its a good place to hang out, have a drink or two and do some emails if you’re not checking out a movie.

Despite an air of slight pretention(is it just me that feels they have to pronounce all the French film titles perfectly as they book a ticket, lest the staff sneer at you?), this place is a cineaste’s dream. Not only do they have the best selection of independent/arthouse/classic films going, they’ve got a gorgeous café, where it’s perfectly acceptable and feasible to sit all day checking out the attractive bohemians of Nottingham(oh, and have some nice food, natch). All this plus frequent film seasons, special theme evenings(they’re having a Mamma Mia! one in December), and the legendary movie quiz make it something of which Nottingham can be very proud.

I’m still trying to get my daughter to go here. She’s 22. My son is already a convert! I used to come here when I was a teenager, many moons ago. I loved it’s informal, hip atmosphere. then I moved away and when I came back to live, visited again. Do you know; it’s STILL hip and young, informal and actually, even better! The food and drink are fab as they would be being run by Tynemill. Most importantly, they are still showing proper films! Not the pap you get at mainstream, faceless, conglomerate, corporate venues. AND even more importantly it is staffed by people who love film and are NOT6 years old! GO! xx

Now this is a nice little place and it has some great features. You need to open your mind when coming to this joint, or maybe have a joint The actual cinema is one of a dying breed of independent cinemas showing movies that the Showcase, and Warners wouldn’t touch with a barge pole, and they are to be applauded for this. I’ve seen some great stuff here, and only wish I could go more often. The café/restaurant contains lots of interesting people — it’s brilliant for people watching. The food wants to be a little cleverer than it actually is — but you’re not fooling me. A sprig of tarragon doth not a michelin star make. Nice for a bowl of soup and a sandwich though, and I suspect they’ve got more herbal and fruit teas than the average chinese alternative therapist

If you love the idea of independent cinema, ethically sourced food, vegetarianism, art and video, good drinks, and a vibrant crowd settling down to an afternoon of literature, then Broadway is the place for you. Showcasing the best in world and independent cinema, all those films you never get to see in the multiplex’s that rule the shopping centres will feature here. You can also hire out a screen for Birthdays and re-live your youth by watching your favourite movies from yesteryear. The bar and eatery is second to none, great food, great prices and friendly staff. Watch out for the presentations and art installations that appear throughout the season.

Broadway’s café bar is a great place to relax with friends either before or after a movie. Prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly and efficient. The café attracts a mixed crowd of all ages, possibly dominated by the more creative and bohemian types amongst us(not meant as a sleight upon such people!) There is an excellent range of food and special deals are available if a meal is combined with a visit to the Broadway cinema itself. The lighting is low(ish) and the music usually of the laid-back variety(at least when I’ve been in). There are sometimes projections on the walls etc. to add interest. Overall, an excellent meeting place in its own right and definitely not one of those bars where you don’t quite feel that you fit in, for reasons that you can’t quite put your finger on.

Great little cinema that allows you to see some of the independent, unusual and foreign, films that often get ignored by the huge multiplexes. It’s nice to have the opportunity to see such films as they’re released and not have to wait several months for them to be released on DVD. The prices are good for members, but for non members they’re not much cheaper than Cineworld at £6.20 a ticket for adults. The seating inside is comfortable, but as another reviewer mentioned it does have a very pretentious air about it which can be rather off-putting. I’ve found that my friends do not particularly enjoy coming here with me.

Nice little café bar. Reasonably priced food and filter coffee only £1, filter decasff too which you don’t get many places, usually only in overpriced coffee chains. Nice little cakes. Seating could be more comfortable though. I don’t know why they changed the seating from how it was a couple of years ago, was better then. Some pretentious people do frequent here and the atmosphere doesn’t make you want to stay all day. Their meal and a film deal is a good deal. Food can be hit and miss though.

Very good, nice and clean cinema in my opinion, but not the biggest, They show many different types of films. There are two bars, one upstairs and another bar which is downstairs with a restaurant.

Great cinema. Mainly indie and arthouse flicks, but also show some mainstream blockbusters, e.g. recently saw Indiana Jones. There is a bar and restaurant downstairs, another bar upstairs. You can bring your drinks in with you.
