A nice small Castle Rock pub providing an oasis of good beer right in the lace market. Rather too small to have any hope of a seat(or even any elbow room) at the weekend though, and the place has terrible echoey acoustics that make hearing conversation quite difficult when the place gets full.

The Kean’s Head is a charming little pub, tucked away on a quiet street opposite St Mary’s church in the Lace Market area. It’s run by Tynemill and you get their usual wide range of excellent real ales and good food. This is the place for relaxed drinking away from the over-exuberance of much of the rest of the old Lace Market.

This is a fab little pub, tucked out of the way of yet still in the centre of town. It is ideal for local beers and good hearty meals, all at reasonable prices. Not somewhere to go if you’re looking for a party atmosphere, but well worth a visit for a beer!

I went to the Keane’s Head expecting a lovely pub. Instead I found a dirty, unfriendly pub which felt more like a canteen or youth hostel. The tables were filthy — covered in spilled wax, beer, sugar etc. The staff were unpleasant and unhelpful. The atmosphere was dismal for a saturday night. Also, Belgian beer menu is limited(having lived in Belgium for 10 years, I am definitely qualified to judge this). Other choice is okay. All in all, don’t bother on a saturday night. Have heard food is okay though. Try the pubs nearby instead.

Hi, Kean’s Head here! Tried to update the about the pub bit but can’t. So just wanted to ammend and update — we dont have DJ’s on any night but we do have awesome food, award winning Ales and and extensive wine & belgium beer menu. We are a CAMRA pub of Excellence and came 2nd in the ‘Addlestones Peoples Choice, Gastro Pub Awards last year. Thanks for all the great reviews and hope to see you all in the pub soon. :-)

keanes head is a small pub that that was anti-smoking well before the all out ban. It has a great choice of local ales as well as some interesting european beers that are fruity and strong. The food is also great(i recommend the fish finger butty) and its got a great atmostphere on a weekend evening. its not an old man place but its not full of young people binging either.

Emmm, this place has no attachment to the Nottingham gay community, its just a great little pub. Loads of good beers on tap and a good food menu.

Another great place from the Castle Rock people —
A lovely bolthole from the hurly burly of the city centre(don’t tell everyone!) serving the usual excellent beer and good quality reasonably priced food. I didn’t know it was a fave for the gay community. I’ll have to bring my friends from London here! xx

This is a popular relaxed, yet buzzing pub in the heart of Nottinghams historic lace market area. It is almost opposite the old St Marys church. The pub is quite small but serves delicious, reasonably priced food both at lunchtime and in the evening. It is a particularly popular place with Nottinghams gay community but not exclusive to this client group.
