Dereham Road is not Norwich’s most glamorous avenue. Yet, nestled adjacent to the Co-op and KFC, there’s this great little quasi-hipstery café without all the hysterical pretension you’d normally get. Everything’s, you know, free-range, organic and stuff, but nobody here is going to grill you about the latest Animal Collective. It’s just a couple of guys selling damn good, exceptionally cheap, baguettes and jacket potatoes and stuff. I didn’t have an avocado-based sandwich today because I was advised that they weren’t ripe. I like that. It’s small and pokey but somehow quite a comfortable place to sit and have your coffee and read their newspaper. You can get food to go, too. Plenty of seating outside, which will be nice if the temperature ever climbs above six celsius in this goddamn Arctic wasteland.
