Tai Pan was quite a large restaurant with quiet but efficient service. We enjoyed a variety of starters including chicken wings, whisker prawns and seafood lettuce wraps-the only thing which wasn’t worth trying, but I would go back and try the meat version. We also had duck and pancakes which were generous and tasty, if a teensy touch dry and the Singapore noodles, a very good sized portion and plenty of meats. Overall, a decent find. Not totally authentic Chinese food but everything was done nicely.

Would not put myself through that experience again. The restaurant ambience was nice with great waiter service and that i’m sure can be reciprocated by the crowd that the restaurant had had on a Wednesday evening. Unfortunately the ambience was just not good enough to surpass the less than mediocre food. The food was extremely greasy and just soaked in oil/butter. The one enjoyable course we did have was the shredded duck which was wonderful. But everything else from the singapore noodles, dumplings(pastry way too thick; worst i’ve ever had by far), egg fried rice, scallops, crispy beef(tasted of fried wonton; couldnt taste the beef at all), squid; was less than mediocre at best. It just was not good enough esp for the small portion sizes. Upper scale normally does warrant smaller portion sizes given the food is amazingly good… here this does not apply. My stomach wasn’t thanking me for the damage right after; during the night or morning after. Just not worth the tummy ache. Will not recommend it to anyone.

I had my birthday here on Wednesday and it was quite simply the best meal I have had in a long time. Best Chinese cuisine with lovely staff and a lovely manager who is so so charming even after I spilt my wine on the table. They were on the spot and kindly moved us to another table. The service is fantastic

Been going for years but quality seems to have gone down and prices up ! Won’t be going back after 2 consecutive bad trips. Chicken tasted odd and very stingy ok the black bean sauce

I have been to Tai Pan a few times(I live in Los Angeles but have family in Northwood) and have generally enjoyed it. The duck is usually pretty tasty(but can sometimes be dry). Portions are a bit small for my American tastes but the food is pretty decent. Always a good choice.

I have been a customer of Tai Pan in Northwood for many many years(my parents used to take me here when I was a kid) and it is as good as it ever was. The décor is a little dated now — not in a scruffy way, but I still feel as though it should be packed with yuppies, shoulder pads and huge mobile phones. The menu is standard for an English Chinese restaurant. Think of your favourite dishes and they will be on the menu. The food really is delicious and is presented well. Service is always good. All round, an enduring classic.

Was great years ago but has slipped a lot. Not reliable. Overpriced and over the hill. Indifferent staff and quality. Wouldnt like to live above this one!
