Woah, nelly. We were in the area on an adventure and were starving — STARVING — having not eaten all day and needed some food. I typed in, «Best Sunday Roast in Northampton» and the Hopping Hare popped right up. Fantastic. This hotel/restaurant is quaint — everything is wooden, tucked away down a gravel road, friendly staff who greet you as you come in — it’s a nice change from London. We were sat and given the menu, which had a nice two course meal for £16, three course meal for £20 or an a la carte menu. We did the three course meal and some extras. And the food was such a win. Standouts included three tasty arancini balls that came with candied caramelised onions, tasty watercress soup with fresh bread, delicious mushroom sauce(don’t miss the mushroom sauce!) and a serious plate of beef roast. It was almost too much food and we walked out clutching our stomaches with happiness. My only real complaint is the service, which was slow. It was slow for them to take our order, slow for the food to come out, no one is in a hurry here. And when you’re starving, no good. But it’s a small thing really. If you’re in the area, especially on a Sunday, this is the place to be.

While attending a wedding in the area, I had the chance to stay at the Hopping Hare and I enjoyed it very much. The room was clean, tidy and comfortable. My only complaint was that it was pretty small and therefore a little cramped. However, one of the other members of my party had an unbelievably large room. I felt like you would need a taxi to get to one end of her bathroom to the other. Breakfast here was a real treat– plentiful and delivered with friendly service. Just what was needed for the members of my party and myself after a long day of champagne consumption. The price of my room here was not particularly cheap, however, I did feel it was representative of the quality and service that I received. It was most definitely worth the extra when compared to what the usual chain hotels in the area offer for the money. I would not hesitate to stay again here at the Hopping Hare should I be in the area again.
