Excellent Conference venue! I went to Highgate House on an inn residential weekend.(It’s the thing that students go to in order to get 3 Qualifying Sessions so you can eventually become a Barrister.) The room was lovely. It had a soft bed, a little too soft — it swallowed me every time I sat, clean bathroom with tub and shower, good lighting overall with a light around the bathroom mirror, an old fashioned hair dryer, TV, ironing board attached to the wall with an iron on the floor just chilling etc. The room are split all over the compound, the one I was allocated was above the Reception area. The grounds itself are beautiful and well maintained. The various conference rooms are well stocked with water — both still and sparkling, bowls of sweets, pens, notepads, magnetic walls, highlighters, calculators, tape… I was fascinated. The food every day was fantastic. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all fantastic — absolutely no complaints.

I visited here for a work offsite over 2 days and was absolutely delighted with the way I was looked after in terms of vegan and wheat free food. Sometimes, chefs seem to panic and you get roasted veg and rice — which is fine, but not for 3 or 4 meals in a row! And sometimes you get the sense that chefs revel in the challenge and take it upon themselves to create the finest vegan food you have ever had in your life. I’m pleased to say that Highgate House provided the latter. The food was imaginative, varied, and absolutely delicious. On the second day, the chef bumped into me at breakfast, and said something along the lines of ‘oh, it’s you is it?!’ with a gleam in his eye. At lunch, he came out of the kitchen himself and served my lunch in person, unveiling his artistry with a flourish and then flouncing off with a smile while we all gawped in amazement at my lunch. Seriously, this chef deserves some sort of medal for services to vegans.
