My brother and I are traveling through England on a walking holiday. We were attracted to the Priory for its sheer«pub-iness». The atmosphere is warm and fun. The staff is friendly and accommodating. My brother had Steak and ale pie and I had fish and chips. The portions were generous and the food tasty. The priory cask ale is both flavorful and smooth. I see they have live music on the weekends as well. We would definitely go back.

star deduction: they could renew the interior. Cosy, cosy! It is nice inside here! Every weekend, some nice musicians are playing great music(when there’re not too drunken ;)). It is a nice atmosphere. They really care about what you think about the pub and want you to feel comfortable. Always a good pub to spend a night out– especially if you love live music! :)

Visiting England and doing a road trip from London to Edinburgh, we decided to head for Tynemouth to see the Priory(the ruins that is, not the pub that we ended up at). We happened to come across the Priory Pub and, being very hungry after driving, decided to stop in. After seating ourselves and waiting a long time for a waiter, we realized that you had to order at the bar and they would then bring the food to you(no signs indicating this… guess you had to be a local to know… waitress passed us by several times but she never told us to go to the bar… irritating). Kids got chicken with chips which was basic fried food. My wife got tuna salad panini and I got the burger. Both came with roughly the same sides, a salad with vinaigrette, slaw and chips. Tuna panini was reported as just«OK». Burger was a different recipe than I am used to… more of a meatloaf recipe… on ciabatta bread. But, it had mexican salsa and bleu cheese on it… a very strange combo. I dumped the bread and cheese and salsa and ate the low carb version. Salad was OK… had blanched green and yellow peppers and cukes. Slaw was more like a blob of mayo with some cabbage inside somewhere… not good. Chips(fries) were the best part. Overall, we got some really mediocre food… upon leaving, saw several other places that looked much better. Pass this one up if you are visiting Tynemouth(although, it looked like a good drinking place).
