KP’s Fishmonger

I feel sad having to downgrade this so drastically but following two less than happy experiences, it is only fair.
Firstly, I visited on Thursday to place an order for collection on Saturday as my husband and I celebrate «Aussie Christmas» every year. I was after a dressed crab as well as some prawns. There were some nice looking prawns on display so I asked for about 20 of those (I’m greedy) and a dressed crab. He said it’d be available to collect on Saturday. Now, I’ve not been well recently so when Saturday came around my husband ended up going to collect the order. He put everything in the fridge and I didn’t see it until Sunday when I went to start cooking. First of all, the dressed crab was the same one I’d seen in the shop on Thursday when I’d been in, with an expiry date of Saturday. What use was an expired crab to my Christmas lunch?! (I had mentioned that we were eating on Sunday to the fishmonger). The prawns were frozen ones that didn’t look appetizing at all, and weren’t the same as the ones they had on display. And for this he’d charged us £9?! Apparently there was some kind of mix up with the fishmonger giving our order to someone else. Still, this was incredibly disappointing and meant another trip to the shops to buy replacements for both the crab and prawns and was really frustrating to me as I wouldn’t have bothered going in to place an order.
Secondly, while I was placing my order on Thursday I noticed they were selling fish cakes. Granted, the fishmonger did mention they were mostly potato but when I got home and cooked them, they were totally inedible and tasted incredibly claggy/​starchy and went straight in the bin.
So, will I be going back here again? Sadly no, they have now lost my custom and I’ll be shopping at the Giffnock/​Shields Roads fishmongers from now on.
