Had an excellent meal at the Royal China last night with a group of friends. The service was excellent and would recommend this place to others.

I agree witht the above comments that the food is expensive i would not return there and if i want take away i go to double luck kitchen up the road whos food is much better in quality and price. If i eat in a restaurant i expect friendly service the waiter and waitress both look miserable.

I am quite a regular of the Royal China Restaurant and by chance came to the site so decided to take a curious look at others feedback and was suprised at seeing the above negative comment. I must say that the food is always excellent and never had any problems before other than indulging too much. I took some friends from Hong Kong(who knows their food) to dine there 3 weeks ago and they were very suprised of how good the quality was. We did asked for dishes not normally on the menu– Fresh Lobsters in Spring Onions on a bed of grilled noodles, steamed scallops and fish etc. My friends commented on how fresh the seafoods were and was at least on par with the diner restaurants they normally go to in Hong Kong. If any of you guys like to be more adventurous you can always ask the waiter/tress for recommendations off the menu and have found the prices very reasonable.

to be really honest i’ve been living down in the southwest for 3 years and i can assure anyone that royal china is the best chinese restaurant in the southwest although me and my frds live in torquay, we often go to newton abbot,(though a bit far) to have some real chinese food in some aspects they are even better than chinese food in Hong Kong i feel really sorry for the costumers of the review below i feel really lucky that for this past 3 yrs, i’ve never experienced something like that

It was my first time @ Royal China I knew this place because this restuarant actually was selected for a good chinese restaurant from one magazine that I usually read So I wanna try it once… I have been there today. It takes me 5 mins by train from Teignmouth and about 5 mins to walk from Newton Abbot Station. The restaurant looks very luxuary at the first place I guess the price is going to be very expensive.(I went there with my friends for 9 people.) We had shark fin soup for starter and lots of food In total, we pay only 20 pound each and this is already include the cost of drinks!(This is full main course!) I would recommend this shop as a good value of money and very good food If you would like to feel the real Chinese food, come to this restaurant to try I will return there again!!! Ps. I saw the comment below. The price of the food is quite expensive but in return you will get good fresh food I will let you come to try once and decide on would you like to come back or not!

royal china are very expensive for what it is, we used to get a takeaway from them but they got a lot of the orders wrong and one night wouldnot deliver as they were too busy. It is situated in the main takeaway parade in newton abbot and has competition from the china garden opposite that is quite nice too. No parking is available so one of your party has to run out and collect it unless you want to order a takeaway

Royal China is located at the end of newton abbot near eastern eye, it has very nice exterior and interior but the food does not live up to the presentation. and they always get your food wrong, numerous times have i sent back items which are wrong and i have now decided not to return, it doesnt mean everybody will have this experience but thought i would share this with you all.
