Chicheley Hall

This venue is exquisite, from the grounds, to the house and of course the team who will go above and beyond at every opportunity. We cannot thank you enough! Verity, from the moment you took our booking I knew that we were in a real experts hands. I want to thank you for making me feel so at ease handing over our big day to you and the team. Karen who looked after the operations on the day — could not have been done enough and made sure everything happened at the right time and in the right place. I have to thank the chefs, Our guests are still raving about the canapes, the breakfast and the evening BBQ.
It was amazing to have both of our family under one roof, we had so much fun getting ready for the big day. Hearing the family ooohhh and aaaah whenever they walked into their beautiful bedrooms was so heart warming. the kids were playing on the grounds and the men were sat in the beautiful private garden easing their nerves with a glass of bubbly
Once ready for the ceremony the nerves hit, walking down their amazing staircase with wobbly jelly legs from the nerves (not the prosecco) seemed like a crazy idea but I did it — I walked into their beautiful hall where my handsome husband to be was waiting for me. After the ceremony the days just flowed.
One thing that blew me away the most is that the venue actually went out and bought a new wedding cake for me after mine arrived in pieces. This venue is totally in control and will deal with any situation in a calm and professional manner — they are truly amazing! Thank you again Team Chicheley!

Chicheley Hall is a grand example of Georgian architecture set among what was once monastic gardens during the Middle Ages. It was built for Sir John Chester, Baronet, between 1719 and 1723. Its uniqueness is in the fact that it is one of the most unchanged 18^th century homes in England retaining most of its original charm and character.
Chicheley Hall’s five part bayed brick main façade (almost 1,000,000 bricks were used in total for the house, wings and garden) is accentuated with fluted pilasters topped off with intricately decorative capitals punctuated with multi-​mullioned large fenestrations which afford its interior rooms with much natural light. Since glass was so expensive in the early 18^th century, its use was meant to impress. The visible four stories seem to soar upwards yet it seems firmly rooted to the earth. In fact the unusually shaped windows on the protruding center of the main façade and the doors were based on influences from the leading architects of Barqoue Rome. I love the bat’s wing pediment over the main door from the main façade. Very dramatique!
The entrance hall is Palladian in style which was the fashion then and contrasted quite appallingly (at the time it was said by one of its original designers Burrell Massingberd) with the baroque woodwork employed in the interior. Its cool pale hues provide a striking contrast to the warm heaviness of the outer brickwork. The walls are adorned with several family portraits and decorative objets are showcased on Italian furniture. Don’t miss the darling Spanish birdcage in the form of a tempietto in the center.
Without getting into too much detail, it is a lovely house and an important one in the litany of grand English Country Houses.
Having said all that, what I remember best from my visit to Chicheley Hall was their adorable Scottie who I ran around with outside for a bit. Very dignified. We were dressed quite similarly so perhaps his mistress was not too alarmed by it all. Actually I think she was completely horrified but he had fun. He was a cutie!
Chicheley is privately held by the family still but has available conference facilities including a heated pool and tennis court among the landscaped grounds with duck pond and gardens.
Oops. I now see through their website that Chicheley Hall has been sold to the Royal Society. Darn recession. It is sad to see it listed as a «venue» when it is truly an important part of English Architectural history.
