As a BBQ lover I was extremely excited to go with the family. The vibe and staff were friendly and sold that Southern BBQ feel. When going up to order I was told that all their meat bar their Wings and Sausage were smoked off site near by. The menu had everything one would expect Wings, ribs, etc. Including a number of challenges. I ordered the hot wings, three meat platter, other orders included the pulled pork sandwich and burger(other people in the group). Also got two kids meals(wings & fries). I started with the hot wings, was very disappointed the Sauce lightly drizzled over was light and flavourless. I was told after that if I wanted hot I should have gone for the hot wings challenge.(A bit late after finding out after). The three meat platter was a hefty portion of pork ribs(small no much meat on), brisket(dry and over cooked), sausage(under cooked), crackling(the best part) & fries(OK). Comments on other meals were OK. One general comment was that the food all tasted the same, personally I don’t mind similar BBQ flavours, what a felt was a distinct lack of Smoke. The holy trinity was not there for me and while the restaurant is being well marketed there is a distinct lack of understanding of what makes good BBQ.

Disappointing. Please be aware if you try to book here that the phone number on the website is for Jesmond. To book in the city centre you have to go along, ask for a table and they’ll tell you when to come back. That to me defies all logic. Anyway, the servers were friendly enough but the food was a complete let down. The fries were dry and tasteless and the meats weren’t that exciting. A fellow diner ordered chicken wings and they looked very pink. They serve some drinks in those jam jar things, but if you order a cider they just give you a bottle? It’s way too small for what they need. Unfortunately, I won’t be eating here again.

Hmmm… if I was starving after an unexpected trip through the desert/forest/whatever with rationed food then a visit to longhorns straight after would have been a godsend. However, I visited on a stormy Friday night willing the cold from my bones with a platter of meat, side of beans and fries and a tankard of beer. I kinda wish I had come hungry from the desert because I was a little disappointed with the end result. Beans were good. Meat was meaty but a bit lacking in flavour. Layout of the restaurant is so bad. I’m sure they could of thought about it a little longer but forgive them as it’s their first place and know how it feels trying to sort everything out in time for the opening day! Will return but maybe after going to your main meat competitor first, bierrex.

Generally good food at a reasonably price, marred by inconsistency. I’ve been a few times now, and the first time I went, I was with 2 friends and we had everything. I mean, everything. Well, with the exception of the hot wings from the challenge, but we did end up trying that a different time. Having tried every type of meat they serve, most of them multiple times, I have to say that their very inconsistent with their quality. I usually get a 3 meat board with the hog butt, braised beef, sausages, with double fries on the side. This is what I felt was best the first time as each was flavourful and juicy. The ribs were dry and the chicken wings were slightly bland and uninspired. The second time I went, the sausages seemed salty and was dry. My friend’s ribs however were excellent, succulent ribs bursting with flavour, the way they should be, but weren’t the first time I was there. Another friend had the hot wings and I decided to try dipping a french fry in some of the sauce, which I found out is really, bloody damn spicy, but instead of the superficial ‘turn your lips red and burn the surface of your tongue off’ spicy, it’s a more pleasant and fulfilling ‘I can feel the heat radiating throughout my entire body’ kind of spicy. He completed the challenge, and although he looked like he’d just taken a shower, he said the sauce was actually quite good if your mouth isn’t immediately overwhelmed by the spice, and the wings were juicy. The third time, the hog butt was good, the sausages were back to normally, but the beef was unbearably dry. That was the first time I hadn’t finished my 3-meat board, and it was out of protest rather than fullness. Overall, it’s decent food at a reasonable price, but I’m always tentative about going there as I’m not sure what’s going to be good and what isn’t. Good beer though, and that’s pretty consistent.

Pretty small and tight restaurant. The décor inside is pretty cool and Texas themed. I like how the drinks were served in mason jar mugs. The food was good and the portions are enormous! We ordered their wings, shredded meats, sausages, and burger, everything tasted great. The shredded /pulled meat were a little bland and dry though, so we poured hot sauce on them, yum! The bean chili was pretty nice too. There’s only one unisex restroom :/

Would have scored higher but it took three attempts to get to eat here, having said that once safely sat at a table in the rustic surroundings we were blown away by the quality and impressive quantity of the food. I had the three meat board and couldn’t finish it though I was trying very hard, great choice of drinks and competitive pricing all increased my opinion of this place, would go again no problem.

Think McDonalds serving sub-par barbecue food and you’ve got Longhorns. Overall i was very disappointed with my visit to Longhorns. The food was bland and tepid, the drinks overly expensive and the service was amateurish. The price of the food was ok. I had a two meat platter which came with two sides for £10. The food was served on platters(chopping boards with a piece of greaseproof paper) so it went cold very quickly, except for the beans that were served in tin cups which stayed warm for quite a while. I had hog butt(pulled pork) which was just a pile of bland, dry, beige meat and the brisket which was also pretty flavourless. I also tried my friends chicken wings, which were below average, and some spicy sausage. The sasuage tasted nice but had a peculiar texture to it, it was quite crumbly, which was a bit weird. If you’re seated upstairs then you can expect to have a long queue of people stood alongside you for the duration of your meal which can be a little off putting. The highlights of the meal for me were the fries and the beans, which is a real shame as the star of the show should be the mains and not the sides. Unfortunately I wont be returning here as there are much better eateries in the area.

Ok so I was expecting great things after stealing a mouthful of my friend’s food from Longhorns at the Boiler Shop Steamer but I was really disappointed when I visited this week! The logistics of the place just don’t seem to work. Whilst queueing at the bar to order your food when waiting on a table you end up stood alongside diners eating and frequently have to move to get out of the way of waiters or people trying to use the toilet. Unfortunately we were also allocated one of the upstairs tables and it’s a definitely a little bit close for comfort. We ordered two of the BBQ boards at £10 each so we could sample 4 of the meats on offer alongside some sides. The drinks were extortionate and ramped up the bill no end. When the food arrived you do get decent enough portions but sadly the meat was lacking in flavour for the most part… the exception being the sausage which was absolutely divine with a ‘kick’ to it. The chicken wings and hog butt were quite simply bland. The upside was that the fries and the chilli beans were delicious… whatever the seasoning is on the chips I need some more of that in my belly! Overall the service is incredibly quick but unfortunately the venue upstairs is in keeping with a fast food joint… however a very expensive one at that! I wouldn’t be in a rush to come back as it lacked the atmosphere and quality of food you can expect elsewhere in Newcastle.

DELICIOUS! This place is stunning! Awesome BBQ food! Very good deal! Firstly, it’s hard to get a table. My suggestion is just go there wait the 15 – 45 minutes It may take for a table. Ask to have a beer from the great selection! While you wait enjoy the small of BBQ … Let it soak into your clothing. Have a browse around of all the cool décor and great beards that come in! Once you get your table you to be apart of something special. The food is delicious. It’s about £4.50 a beer and £10 for the board of meat. £10 two meats and two sides. Trust me it will fill most people. Deliciously smoked. Great hot sauce also! YEEEHAWW!

We have been so excited to try Longhorns, and it was such a big let-down in the end! It seemed like we’d be in for a treat, it was busy on a Sunday lunchtime and we both really liked the atmosphere. Truly feels like a BBQ shack in America with big wooden tables, and great music like Johnny Cash to set the mood. We each ordered a BBQ Board, one with 2 meats and 2 sides and one with 3 meats and 2 sides, so we could try all 5 available meats. I also got a can of A&W Root Beer(yummy) which they serve with a jar filled with ice, which is fun. Should’ve looked at the menu though and saw that it was £3! Can’t believe I spent money on that; I love root beer, but that’s robbery. We were so excited for our food, and then out it came: pork ribs, wings, brisket, spicy sausage, and«hog butt» with fries, slaw, 3 bean chili, and pit beans. Whew! We hurriedly tried everything and found almost everything to be a letdown. Some worse than others. On the plus side — while too dry, the brisket was pretty tasty. The fries were crisp. I also really liked the beans(fun blend of kidney beans, white beans, and chickpeas) and the chili, though they tasted quite similar as the chili contains the aforementioned beans plus some meat. Honestly, everything else wasn’t great. I thought the chicken wings were greasy and fatty and didn’t want to eat more after I finished one. The spicy sausage was one of our least favorites, I’ve had far better sausages at the supermarket. It crumbled apart, instead of being sliceable. It was a strange texture and an unappealing taste — we didn’t finish it. The hog butt(pulled pork, basically) was both under seasoned and dry, but the taste wasn’t offensive at least. The ribs were just strange. They didn’t have a big center bone like ribs normally do, they just had bits of fat and gristle in the middle, and hardly any meat around them. The meat didn’t come off in tender pieces with one bite, you had to rip at them and then you got barely anything. The slaw was just cabbage and onion with mayonnaise(or so it tasted). The BBQ sauces were okay, I preferred the regular one to the hot one, and you absolutely needed it to make the bland pulled pork taste of anything. We paid £1 for the ultra-hot sauce, which you need to be careful of, since it is super spicy and takes a minute to kick in. Fiancé found that out the hard way after taking big bites of meat covered in it, then his eyes grew wide and I could tell that sauce meant business. £25 for big portions of mostly unappetizing food and an overpriced can of soda. The service was fast and friendly, we liked the atmosphere, and some of the food was okay, but this was our least favorite in Newcastle by a long way. We’d go to Hop and Cleaver or Bierrex over this any day, and won’t be back. Fiancé suggests if you try this place, maybe getting a brisket sandwich. It might be a little bland, but not bad with sauce. That’s probably the best you can do here.

Quick service, delicious barbecue, fun atomism here and friendly staff. It’s not made for families but we have a small child and still want to eat great food so my only criticism is that they have no highchairs at all. They did say they were working on it though.
