Blu Bambu is a student mecca. Located on the infamous Bigg Market, the club is themed around some sort of tropical island. The bar staff wear grass skirts, hot pants and bikini tops. The clientele don’t wear much more. The music is loud, popular and brash. The club does all it can to stir up the student rivalry between the two universities during term time, but this is predominantly Northumbria territory. Blu Bambu is hot and sticky inside, drinks are cheap but there isn’t a wide choice. People come here for one reason and one reason only, the place is a blatant meat market. If your idea of a good night out does not include drinking sambuca out of a 17 year olds belly button and catching herpes, you’d would probably do well to stay away.

This was the last place we came to on the bar crawl for my 18th birthday and while the reviews I’d read seemed to suggest it was a bit cheesy, we all really enjoyed it! It’s got a big upstairs with a bar and loads of booths which all looks down onto a big dancefloor. There are also a few bars round the dance floor. Maybe it was the influence of the alcohol but it was the best place we’d been in all night. It got a bit crammed in there and the drinks weren’t the cheapest(I think it cost just under £20 for about 9 shots) but the entry wasn’t too bad because we had this buy one get one free offer. The music was all very modern and the stuff you’d want to dance too and enjoy. In fact pretty much everyone dances in this place, there was hardly anyone sitting still! It’s on Bigg Market and I suppose if you can stand large crowds, it’s a good one to go to! You’ll find it easily because of the huge neon sign.
