Great hotel, comfy beds view of St James stadium thrown in fit the footie fans out there, shark bar and food is very good with wings Wednesday seeing the place packed out always, just watch the shower drains they’re not that well designed…

The Sandman Signature Hotel is a rather classy hotel situated directly across from St James Park, home ground of The Magpies, Newcastle United. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the city centre or a 2 – 3 minute walk from Newcastle’s Chinatown, a very lovely area that has an abundance of very reasonably priced and very tasty Chinese restaurants and buffets. The room that we got at the Sandman was a double room so my review is solely for that room and doesn’t reflect what the rest of the hotel room options are like. Our room came equipped with a desk for your laptop/make up(every woman knows how a man loves his eye shadow!), a fridge, kettle for making your morning tea or coffee and a VERY comfortable bed that you would find it very hard to get out of in the morning, which we did. There is no humane reason for beds to be so comfy. The bathrooms in the Sandman are actually wet rooms with the added pleasure of having a rainfall shower. Imagine how hard it was to leave a hotel that had the comfiest bed and the best shower that you had ever had! In the 3 days that we visited the Sandman I’m sure I had about 2 – 3 showers per day just because I could. I’m surprised I never squeaked when I walked I was so clean! The main foyer of the hotel was host to some of the coolest modern art I have ever seen, including an egg shaped hanging chair that hangs from the roof on a chain and if memory serves me right, a stuffed animal with a lampshade on its head. Very cool. The staff at the Sandman are absolute stars. Very welcoming and chatty and always have a smile on their face regardless of the time of day. They were even kind enough to keep our bags for us after we checked out as there was a 10hr window between checking out and getting on our train back home which was very kind of them. There was also a machine for free tea, coffee and hot chocolate 24⁄7! Imagine the delight of being told you have unlimited access to caffeine all day! In addition to all of this there was free wifi, the option to have a paper delivered to your door every morning(I made full use of this and had the Guardian delivered to my door to save me getting dressed in the morning to go all the way for a paper) and room service from the Shark Club which is a gastro pub that is attached to the hotel. All in all we had a great stay here and would definitely pay the money to stay again. Well worth considering if you are planning on being in Newcastle for a few night and want something a little better than the Quayside’s Travelodge.

Soo many hotels to choose from when visiting Newcastle. Happened to come across this hotel using a , looked at their website and decided to try and book direct as they were offering a great 1 week advanced package including breakfast. Well worth the stay. Very comfortable room, great view, attentive and yet discreet staff, great shower, easy walking distance to town(St James park about 50metres away) and an awesome breakfast to book. Whilst they do offer some parking slots in a public car park at a concession its not cheap of you are staying for more than a couple of days.

The Sandman Signature Hotel is a newish trendy hotel across the road from the Newcastle United Football Club — very handy of you’re here to see a match. It’s about a 10 minute walk(mostly down-hill) to the train station and the centre of town. It’s a bit further afield from the Quayside — but a very cheap 10 minute taxi ride and you’re on the waterfront. Outside of match days, it’s a very quite area. Most of the rooms are mini-suites equipped with a small kitchen with its own mini TV. which can be nice if you’re looking to eat in for a change. The Sandman is one of the few hotels in Newcastle with rooms that can easily accommodate 3 or 4 people. My studio King room had a double sofa bed — though the overall room itself was quite diminutive. The bath was modern with a large rain-forest shower — though it didn’t have a shower door — water got everywhere. There is free wifi and you can order room service from the sports bar & grill adjacent to the lobby. Overall the Sandman is a good Newcastle Hotel option especially if you want to be near the stadium.
