Red Mezze

Don’t get the table by the door as it’s freezing when folk are trailing in and out, other than that great place with simply amazing lamb cutlets char grilled to perfection, the mixed grill is treat as well.

This is the best Turkish place in Newcastle in my opinion! I eat here quite regularly and it never disappoints and is really consistent in standard. The staff are lovely and service is really quick. The main reason I enjoy this place is the quality of meat which is fantastic, extremely tasty and always perfectly cooked. The portions are pretty big and considering it’s only £7.50−8 a main it’s awesome value. I’m always tempted to get a few meze to start and all come with a basket of flat breads which I always over indulge in and wish I’d made more room for my main. I went with a friend recently who had never been and she wanted me to recommend a main but literally it is all good whatever you choose. If you want simple Turkish flavours done well, great quality meat a friendly atmosphere and a guarantee to leave uncomfortably full this is the place for you.

This place is amazing! The chicken special wrap is the best I’ve had — actually come to think of it I’ve been a fair few times and never had anything other than this.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is great, however the table by the door is a nightmare to sit at when it’s busy.

I paid a visit to Red Mezze last week for lunch with some friends, and we got great Turkish food for a wonderful value. For £7.45 you get two mezze to start, then the main of your choice! Portions are pretty big for lunch time, making this even more of a bargain! I enjoyed creamy hummus and zeytinyagli fasulye (green beans cooked with onions, tomatoes, red peppers, and spices) with the warm pita bread that was brought in a basket for our table to share. The chicken shish was my main, and consisted of 6 big chunks of juicy, marinated chicken served alongside fluffy rice and salad, and a chunky hot sauce to mix in. Everything was very good, I only wished I could finish it!
They have a little outdoor patio area in front, though it was full when we arrived. Service was pretty quick and you get a little piece of Turkish Delight when they bring the bill around. My friends enjoyed their moussaka as well, lunch here was definitely a hit! I’m already eager to return soon and try more things! Really, the lunch special cannot be beat.

Unilocal came up trumps last night when we were looking for somewhere to eat. A local search revealed this gem.
Initial impressions were very positive. The décor was down to earth and quite homely with just enough room at the table for comfort. Whilst we were the first customers on for the evening it very quickly filled up with families and small groups alike causing a very pleasant buzz about the place.
A very enthusiastic waiter looked after us, the smile was infectious. A hot mixed mere to start off with was amazing. The Turkish sausage was was so moorish, the halumi perfect and the triangular pastry with the feta cheese and dill … Perfect. An awesome start.
Main courses of lamb iskenderand lamb tandir hit the spot perfectly and lots of it to boot. Lots and lots of well defined flavours and despite filling up rapidly you just wanted to keep eating.
Kazandibi (milk pudding) for pudding was an area for debate. Just right to finish the meal off with a nice cool and flavoursome treat. But the texture was different. I say different because whilst nice it was different …
All in all an excellent restaurant.

Excellently presented food in nicely decorated surroundings (the cold mezze platter starter was particularly well set out). Service was swift & courteous and 5 of us ate and drank very well on New Year’s Eve for just over £20 per head (my swordfish was succulent, bone-​free and well cooked). Definitely one of the best places I’ve eaten in in Newcastle.

A lovely place with lovely food and a great staff providing a really good experience. Eaten here a number of times, could never find fault.

Having been to Red Mezze more times than i can count, i can thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Friendly, courteous staff and freshly made food with a menu that has something for everyone. Their ‘2 course’ lunchtime and evening specials are amazingly good value and its definitely worth trying the ‘turkish apple tea’ to wash down your meal with. If youre lucky, along with your bill you might even get a couple of squares of Turkish delight.

The only Turkish Restaurant in Newcastle serving authentic, brilliant value Turkish Mezze, small plates of delicious food, great to share with friends and family.
