Jazz Cafe

We were yet one second in when the bar lady said it was five pound entry and that in case we weren’t aware, there would be JAZZ MUSIC playing. Well, I never. There I was thinking that there would be a fusion of dubstep and reggae. It’s safe to say we didn’t stay long enough to buy a single drink. If the barmaid had been a little less patronising and a little more hospitable we would have stayed to enjoy some music but first impressions count for everything when you’re in a new city and want a nice place to drink so we we set off into the newcastle night, in search of a cosey bar.

Sehr gemütlich, familiäre Stimmung! und wie CYCOHOLIC bemerkt hat ist es so unscheinbar dass man grade im dunklen ganz leicht vorbeilaufen kann.

Für Liebhaber des Jazz oder Swing der mehr als geeignete Ort um einen Tag in Newcastle in Ruhe ausklingen zu lassen.
Zu Beginn — aufgrund der unscheinbaren Fassade — wenig einladend, eröffnet sich einem im Inneren eine altbackene und dadurch liebenswerte Athmosphäre die am Wochenende ab etwa halb zehn mit Livemusik gefüllt wird.
Getränke gibt es aus Flaschen/​Dosen, übliche Knabbereien sind erhältlich und das Eintrittsgeld (ab 3 Pfund) hat sich schnell rentiert.
Die Sitzgelegenheiten sind eher bedürftig und man sollte rechtzeitig dort sein um einen für sich geeigneten Platz zu finden (nicht ZU weit vorn, dort stehen die Lautsprecher).
Von den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln wie Central Station, Bus und Metro ist es auch nur einen Katzensprug entfernt… also: ein Abstecher dorthin lohnt sich auf jeden Fall!

As an alternative venue to the usual stuff that gets put on in Newcastle, the Jazz Café is in a league of its own. A small and intimate hangout with only a handful of tables on the ground floor, it is the place of choice for mid-​week drinks and appreciating little-​known live music talent in the heart of the city. Come the weekend, the comparatively spacious upstairs is opened up and the Jazz Café is transformed into a popular destination for young and old alike, also benefitting from a strong student following. Try to get your hands on a flyer listing upcoming gigs from the bearded Jazzman who in addition to owning the spot is its most ardent promoter about town.
