Now this comes from over 20 years ago — when I was at University in Newcastle. This place rocked then and I can’t wait to get back there. I dream about the mushroom korma from brighton tandoori. Nothing in the US compares. I miss you Brighton Tandoori. Many a drunken night my room mate and I would avail ourselves of Brighton’s delicious, luscious and divine cuisine. God I can taste it now. After reading some of the reviews below, and liking Indian food as much as I do, I decided to try them out. Nicely furnished waiting room. Architecturally interesting, and there is a nice flat screen tv and magazines for those who are waiting. When I say that this place is good, what I mean to say is that this place is amazing! Purely amazing food. I ordered the chicken tikka, the lamb korai, and peshwari naan(thanks J.B. for her review!). I agree with J.B., the chicken tikka was especially spicy, but it was cooked perfectly. The chicken pieces were bite-size and tender. The lamb was a little less spicy than the chicken, and it was quite tender and flavorful. The meal came with a pint of rice and a garden salad with ranch dressing. That being said, it is enough to feed two or three for dinner. Quite a generous serving, indeed I have leftovers for tomorrow. Read if you have a swipe-version credit card: Unlike J.B., I did have a problem – a customer service problem that arguably may or may not be their fault. I, being an American, have a Visa card with which I attempted to pay. It’s an American Visa card, which means that it is a swipe card – sure, that’s pretty standard. But in the UK, the credit cards use a different technology(called chip and pin). This place would not accept my card! Let me say it again, they wouldn’t accept my Visa Card, accepted anywhere, right!!! Wrong, they swiped the card, and then they said that they didn’t accept American cards. I felt somewhat intrigued and insulted, especially when I saw an old fashion credit card reading machine behind the counter(the mechanical type, where you have to use carbon paper). I still wanted my food, so I found a cash machine(that was just down the block). Though I’m pretty sure what they did was in error and that Visa Corporation would probably have something to say about it, I advice Americans and Canadians: have CASH handy.(Alternatively, you could give this place trouble for not accepting your card! If enough business is lost over it, maybe they might change this policy!) In any case, the food is very extremely good. The only reason this place lost a star was because of their credit card incompatibility issue. I will definitely order from this place again if I want some tasty Indian food.

I kept hearing that this is the best Indian takeaway in all of Newcastle and possibly the North East, so last night we gave them a try. Oh my! The food was to die for, or maybe to at least sacrifice a first born for! Our chicken tikka starter was super spicy and incredibly tasty. The Lamb Korai and Chicken Balti we shared were both unbelievably good. Definitely on the hotter side but that’s just fine by me. The peshwari naans were really moist and thick and full of goodness. I do not have a single complaint about the food, and I think that Brighton Grove ranks up with the best Indian resturants in Newcastle full-stop, not just against other takeaways. Definitely can’t wait to try them again!
