Mandarin Chinese Restaurant

Ok, first off the food here is great. The egg noodles here are just about the right texture of stickyness and the duck here was wonderful. If you love crispy duck, you’d like it here cause the duck here is cripsy on the outer but the inside is chewy. For pork lovers I’m happy to recommend you the char siu pork (roasted barbeque pork dish) here is lovely, the meat is nice and well flavoured.
BUT! im choosing to capitalise my «but» here because the service here is terrible. I was surprised at how the waitress was slightly throwing the menu on the table for us and asked us in such a grumpy face what we wanted to eat. At least I hoped they realised that we are apparently customers and should be treated like one. I’m hoping for immediate service improvement here because it’s a shame to have such a lovely place where it’s being ruined by all the service.
But surely, apart from the service all Chinese food lovers should definately seek out this place since the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere (gives you the very chinese feel as soon as you enter and get seated). The price here is reasonable judging from the atmosphere of the restaurant and the food quality, but just one teeny disappointment that I just couldn’t ignore (ie. service) being why I didn’t rate this place five star.

Very basic, bland Chinese food. Service was slow and rude. Overpriced for probably the worst food in Newark.

Yes, I chose it because 1) when we came to a stop at the light, it was right there and 2) it looked nice from the outside. Inside is very nice as well. The staff were very friendly and attentive, although the lady that sat us and served us during parts of the meal… worried that she didn’t really understand us and well we had a bit of trouble understanding her. However, she was trying and we did get our order.
A different lady took our order and I have a feeling she runs the place… she was great in chatting up customers and making people laugh. The food was delicious. We started with the spring rolls, but it didn’t come with any dipping sauces. I did appreciate the fact that they bring out bowls for you to eat from, very much like my experience in China… and it makes eating with chopsticks a bit easier.
I had the Chicken with lemon sauce and my friend had the Hong Kong Sweet and Sour Chicken. We both had steamed rice. The chicken was cooked wonderfully, mostly chicken, not a lot of batter. The lemon sauce was nice too. My friend really enjoyed her food as well. The rice was ok, it wasn’t quite sticky, but it was good with the chicken and lemon sauce. I did think it was a bit pricey considering the main dishes do not come with rice, but the food was very good. I’d go back!

Thai opposite is better.
