An interesting old church which was rebuilt in Norman times, and is a feature to look out for when walking along the canal side in Neath. It’s said to have been built on the site of St Illtyd’s ‘cell’ from his visit in the 6th century. A baby by the name of Llywarch ap Iestyn died here during his baptism in the 11th century; the abbot who was baptising him ran away from a confrontation with Prince Rhys ap Tewdwr and his men, leaving the poor child to drown in the font!
