This is my mothers favorite palce to eat. Shes loves carvery and this place does a very good carvery.(Not so good for the vegitarians as the veggie options are very limited and no where near as nice as the cavery dinner). If you get seated before 6.30 you can get either soup or ice cream included in the price of your dinner and you can often get internet vouchers to bring the price down to £5 a meal. If you like roast dinner this is the place to go and as I come from Thornaby is easier to get to than the one off the A19 on the way to Hartlepool. Only downside is you can’t book a table so you may be disappointed at busy times or be in for a long wait.

When we visited the Toby Carvery it was the evening before they were closing to refurbish, however they didn’t tell this when we booked our table. It was very quiet and the starter menu was very limited as they’d been using up stock and the only dessert available was ice-cream. They still had a full carvery which the meat-eaters in our party enjoyed but the vegetarians were very unimpressed with their veggie option. The staff were friendly but a bit unprofessional as it was their last night before a few weeks off work and they did try to rush us out quickly so they could close early. Overall, the prices were ok and the restaurant itself was clean and cosy but, as I said, it was being refurbished so I’ve no idea what it looks like now.

Not a bad meal for the price. The Yorkshire Puddings are enormous and the gravy is nice. Once or twice I have been left a little dissapointed with a few aspects of the food but nothing to get my kneckers in a bunch about. I would suggest heading there for opening time as the place soon fills up.

Does the traditional carvery Sunday lunch for £8.50 on a Sunday. Expect to wait a few minutes for a table so you just sit in the bar area with a drink and they call you on the tannoy when theres a table free. Staff very polite and helpful. When ready they take you through to a table and you go up for your meal. I would say to probably expect to queue on a Sunday, nothing major 10 minutes max. The chef serves you choice of meat and you help yourself to veg and potatoes. They are always replenishing them! Waitresses very helpfull asking if you’re ok, need anything etc. They are also quick to clear plates etc away so you don’t spend your meal looking at other people’s empty plates. You can pay via the table or going to the till, both ways efficient. The Toby is directly opposite James Cook Hospital and shares its car park with a Premier Inn hotel but there is always plenty of spaces. A really nice meal out.
