Decent enough trendy bar right opposite the students union. Modern decoration and a full glass façade wouldn’t make you expect to find cask ales being sold but here you will find Black Sheep plus a few others. Food is sold but portions are quite small for the price.
Not a bad place to relax during the day. Gets very packed on a weekend evening. Standing room is limited.

You know I think this place has gone down hill. I went there with some friends from work for lunch one day. And ordered a chicken rap. Needless to say my little finger was bigger than the wrap itself. So overpriced its not what it once was when I was a student I would avoid the place till they can get better staff!

The Star and Garter was one of my favourite little pubs when I was a t University in Middlesbrough, like a lot of other establishments is located in the heart of the university. The pub itself looks very much like a standard local pub that has the same drinkers every day. Its location means that as well as havening locals it also has a massive student base. They offer a wide range of food and very good prices. On a Sunday the offer a carvery where there is such a good selection that you can’t help leaving absolute full. I would recommend getting there early as it is very popular and sometime you might have a bit of difficulty getting a table. The carvery is very reasonably priced and I’m not sure it is aimed at students but it certainly pulls them in.
