I am currently(as I write if you not as you read) spending a weekend in the lovely little town of Matlock a short train journey from the big urban smoke of Manchester. The days can be sent browsing the gorgeous local cafes, drinking in the local country pubs and waking along the lovely rivers. At night though, it doesn’t go quiet like many a country town, there’s actually a fair bit going on. Quite a few bars and pubs are lively with plenty of fun being had by its frequenters. Monk Bar and its downstairs club Monk Cellar, are definitely one of the premium places to pass an evening. Monk Bar is really cool inside, light and bright, with crystal chandeliers and a brick wall, very chic and modern but in an old Victorian building. Rather than being a strange combination, it works both its charms perfectly, being as it is both authentic and cool. The Cellar downstairs is a kind of club, hosting nights including the locally popular Wobble, featuring the latest house and electro choonz. Its open till 3am on the weekends! They serve posh beers like Erdinger and the like, as well as some really tasty cocktails. Well worth an evening of your time if you’re a fan of fun.
