The hotel is stunning; sitting right on the Thames a short walk over to Marlow High Street it is an idyllic location. I was upgraded to a 4 poster room which looked out over the Thames and Marlow bridge which was covered in snow – couldn’t ask for a more tranquil and lovely view. I will say I had to wait 15 minutes to check in, which is annoying, but what can you do when there are only 2 staff positions. My room was immaculate with a four poster bed and up a few steps was a bathroom with Molton Brown toiletries – always a nice touch. I did find my room at the end of the hall was somehow very noisy – I didn’t realize until morning it was next to a stairwell which meant there was a lot of slamming doors and foot traffic. I also had TWO people knock on my door(but not for me) and had a hang-up phone call at 6am which was very disconcerting. Otherwise I can not fault my room or it’s fittings but unfortunately I can fault the breakfast. First I asked a staff member what the additional cost of room service for breakfast was and was told that it was included in my rate – great – so I filled out the room card and set it on my door. I had requested my eggs with a runny yolk but otherwise no additional requests. As I’d seen the restaurant has gotten rave reviews I figured this was not too much to ask. My breakfast came the next morning and I was more than disappointed to say my eggs were cooked solid through – hard, cold yolks were not what I was anticipating. My bacon was greasy and almost entirely fat with very little meat. I was able to eat the cereal that came with my breakfast but nothing else but was very disappointed. As I had to get to a meeting I didn’t have time to order a second breakfast. Upon check-out I was told that I was being charged £28!!! for the breakfast! Apparently it was NOT included in my room rate and I was misinformed. Even if it had been an amazing breakfast there is no way it was worth £28 and certainly not for what I was given. The hotel is beautiful, the room is beautiful but I would not bother with the breakfast. It spoiled an otherwise lovely stay.
