Places like this make me glad to have somewhere like Rusholme, because they serve as a little microcosm of Islamic culture, demonstrating in a tiny shop the major elements of the local faith and way of life. I like to wander through places like this just browsing and expanding my world view. granted it’s slightly easier to do this through reading about them on, say, the internet, but it’s nowhere near as fun.

The sign says it all, if Islam’s your thing, head to the world of Islam. For your convenience they stock just about anything of Islamic origin from dress scarves, Korans and ornament gifts. If you’re feeling cultural this store can be a very satisfying browse, it’s full of those things that you don’t have a clue about. Then a more knowledgeable mate who’s been travelling goes, «Aaa this is a qibla compass, its points north obviously but the numbers on the dial when aligned show you the direction of prayer for Ka’abah or Mecca»… «Cheers Matt».
