I love this place. The building has been tastefully renovated. With many of the original features. The wine list is immense so much too chose from. Reds whites pinks champagne. There is a specials list too choose from which changes every week. The bar staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. Up stairs you can Relax on one of the very large sofas. They also serve cake and coffee. A small selection of bar food and a great selection of real ales. Highly recommended

What makes someone want to review a place? Have they had a really great experience? Or a really terrible one? Or are they trying to maintain their elite Unilocal status? I visited Wine and Wallop with 5 friends a few weeks ago and didn’t have the inclination to immediately write about my experience, but having encountered somewhere that responded negatively to my comments I feel that this place deserves a mention on how the current trend for quirky drinks, craft beers and charcuterie boards can be done RIGHT. It was a busy Saturday night, there had been a bit of a mix up with our reservation but they still made sure there was space to seat the 6 of us. As someone who is still a bit unsure of beers, I opted for the elderflower cider. Probably not the best choice after a full day out sampling the bars of West Didsbury(a pint is a lot of liquid!) but a really tasty, very floral(obviously) still craft cider. Definitely recommended. There’s a choice of sharing boards, French, Spanish, English, and more, featuring cheeses, meats, breads, pickles that you would expect from those countries, plus the addition of scotch eggs, pork pies, olives, chutneys, pâté… all very very nice. One member of our party could not eat pork, so they made sure to make a separate platter for her featuring a little bit of the cheeses and breads from the other boards. They were really pleasant with us, bringing the drinks over and sorting out a tab. We had brought some card games along — Saturday night games, make of that what you will — and the staff were fine with this, even commenting on how much they enjoyed playing the game. The boards were reasonably priced especially as we were sharing a few between us. I’d like to go back in the daytime to see what the hot drinks are like but needless to say I would be happy to return.

Lovely little place with lots of wine(obviously), beer, and a nice looking menu of nibbles. We started with a delicious bottle of Malbec and then had some prosecco, all greatly enjoyed. The staff were really nice as well — I had to ask for an ice pack as my ridiculous drunk boyfriend had fallen over in the street and hurt his ankle and one of the barmen got me a tea towel packed with his ice, and then asked me if he was ok when I returned to get more drinks. I havent been back since my first visit but will definitely head here again next time I’m having drinks in Didsbury.

From the owners of Folk. Yes, it is a nice wine bar and the drinks we had were lovely as is the service but the décor was a bit confused. The upstairs is a sectioned affair. The large sofas there just make it feel cramped in a corner. I wasn’t too keen on the animal heads; made it seem like a ski lodge which I don’t think is what they were going for — or were they? The downstairs is more brasserie, or was it French bar. I’m not sure. It wasn’t horrible, just confused style.

One of the newer places for drinks in West Didsbury. This wine bar is situated right by the West Didsbury tram stop, perfect for a cheeky drink straight after work. There’s chalk boards up showing the day/weeks special picks(including their prices). The staff are also very friendly and knowledgeable if you want to find out what the wine options are. Even if you’re not a wine connoisseur this is a great, chilled out place to enjoy wine. Don’t worry people, there’s also beer on tap if wine isn’t your thing.

As I begin writing this review, I wonder, what could I possibly add, that Josh. M hasn’t covered. Wine and Wallop is at the same location that used to be Blockbuster, directly opposite to West Didsbury tram stop and adjacent to Pizza Express. Their twitter profile says they are run by the same folk from Folk. This is an oasis in that desert of a neighbourhood inconveniently located between Didsbury village and West Didsbury. We could do with a couple of more places like this in that row of shops, to be honest. This place appears to be pet-friendly(even on a Friday night). Massive ceiling with a mezzanine/top floor add to the ambience of Wine and Wallop. We tried a cheeseboard, a large meat platter and a portion of bread. They were all very good and flavoursome. They have an extensive selection of wines in all three colours(red, rose and white), plus the ones that pop and sparkle. Like Josh mentioned, the ones available by the glass are on a blackboard above the entrance. There is only one glass size, though. They have 13 pumps for beer, so beer lovers, breath, for there’s something for everyone. The people behind the bar were very friendly and offered suggestions when we looked/acted like we need help, which was a nice gesture. Overall a nice experience and I wouldn’t mind going there again. As with everywhere else, I sincerely hope they maintain their levels of service and quality.

Wine and Wallop is located directly opposite the West Didsbury tram station making it a great jumping off point if you are on public transport and don’t live in Didsbury. The bar is very nicely laid out, a large open space with a floating second floor which looks down on the bottom storey. High moulded ceilings and massive display shelving behind the bar showing off their very large selection of wine. I’m a beer drinker so the thought of a wine bar didn’t get my palate stirring particularly but what did and is a fantastic aspect of Wine and Wallop is the 13 hand pumps on the bar. There is in fact almost as many beers available on a daily basis as there is wines by the glass available. I did in fact try the wines that others ordered and as there were a few even I would happily drink. I am told they were a very good selection by my wine quaffing friends. It is important to add that there is only a selection of the wines available by glass and these are displayed on a chalkboard above the door. All other wines are by bottle only. I believe they change this list regularly, although I didn’t enquire how often this occurs. The beers on tap the night I went in were a selection from Timothy Taylor’s(a Didsbury staple) Brightside Brewery and Ilkley. They didn’t have all 13 taps on(I think there were 2 absent). The bar doesn’t do meals but does have a selection of light snacks, mostly in the range of cheeses, meats, biscuits and breads. All of these are decent quality and the portions are reasonable. I would say the demographic of the bar is on the older side, being in my mid 30’s I was definitely in the younger age range there on a Friday night. But that said the bar has a great vibe with no tv, and jazz music playing in the background at a low volume so it’s definitely a spot for conversation or quiet contemplation rather than a party venue.

I really like the latest addition to West Didsbury. Wine and Wallop is run by the same people as Folk but has a much more mature upmarket feel. As the title suggests the focus is on the wine and there is a wide selection to choose from. You can also try before you buy as well. As well as wine the bar also has a good selection of craft beers so there is definitely something for everyone. The décor is light and airy and there is a lovely relaxed vibe. A good choice if you are in West Didsbury.
